Video of the Day: Batko, the new King?

Torque | September 4, 2008

After a frustrating end of the transfer period, I think those who wanted badly Berbatov at Old Trafford deserve to relax and enjoy his best goals for Spurs.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dimitar Berbatov’s top 5 goals scored in the last two years:

Number 5

Berbatov Sulky? What A Load Of Nonsense!

Carlyluvsunited |

Everyone is sulky sometimes. A lot of people always mention that Berbatov is sulky, moody and disruptive and it makes me laugh to be honest. I personally believe Berbatov is nowhere near his best, we haven’t seen all he has. For four years now I have rated him as a footballing genious if given the chance to grow. No disrespect to Spurs, but they hardly set the world alight in the past 2 seasons. Berba was left up front alone, waiting for the kind of service he needs to score. Given Spurs erratic form week by week it must have been frustrating for him. When your team mates are simply not in the same class as you, then it would drive you to insanity. Despite not getting the service he requires, he has still scored 23 goals in the past two seasons and 11 assists last year. In a team that scored just 66% of the goals United did! Video of the Day: ManU(cho)

Torque | September 3, 2008

Our first Angolan player, who signed in January, but couldn’t get a work permit, has finally arrived at OT. Some fans can’t wait to see him in action, some say he’s not up to United’s standard. Whatever you think of Manucho, I invite you to enjoy his goals for Panathinaikos:

In the Shadow of The King

opm | September 2, 2008

‘66 was a great year for English football.
Eric was born.

Hailed as the most influential player of the most influential team in British football, Eric Cantona was the catalyst for some of Manchester United’s greatest successes of the 1990s. With his swagger and a unique termperament, Cantona welcomed the limelight of Old Trafford and quickly became a crowd favorite and as Dimitar Berbatov has pointed out, he never smiled either. Even with his abrupt exit from the greatest stage, his many brilliant goals, are cherished as some of the greatest footballing memories that the Old Trafford faithful have had. The Flowers of Manchester

Stanley Joshua | August 27, 2008

BBC

One cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,
Seven great football stalwarts conceded victory,
Seven men will never play again who met destruction there,
The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester

Matt Busby’s boys were flying, returning from Belgrade,
This great United family, all masters of their trade,
The pilot of the aircraft and the skipper Captain Thain,
Three times they tried to take her up and twice turned back again.

The third time down the runaway disaster followed close,
There was ice upon the wings and the aircraft never rose,
It ran upon the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned.
And seven of the team were killed when the battered aircraft burned.

Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor who were capped for England’s side.
And Ireland’s Billy Whelan and England’s Geoff Bent died,
Mark Jones and Eddie Colman, and David Pegg also,
Before the blazing wreckage went ploughing through the snow.

The trainer, coach and secretary, and a member of the crew,
Also eight sporting journalists who with United flew,
and one of them was Big Swifty, we never will forget,
the greatest English ‘keeper who ever graced a net.

They said that Duncan Edwards had an injury to his brain,
They said that Jackie Blanchflower would never play again,
Matt Busby he was lying there, the father of the team
Six months or more did pass before he saw another game

Oh, England’s finest football team its record truly great,
its proud successes mocked by a cruel turn of fate.
Seven men will never play again, who met destruction there,
the flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester

The Flowers of Manchester. It leaves a lump in my throat, every time I sing it. I’m sure it’s the same for multitude of Manchester United supporters across the world. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Has Ramsey Chosen Arsenal?

Torque | June 10, 2008

The recent articles about Aaron Ramsey were pointing to United as favorites for signing him. Last week, Cardiff manager Dave Jones spoke in favor of United, saying that a transfer to United would be a perfect foundation for a bright future

“United are the major force in European football, if not the best club in the world, and with the squad of players they have that domination is set to continue for some time to come. I believe Aaron can go there and play a valuable part in that in the future.”

2008 Champions of Europe

Torque | June 3, 2008

May 21st - another unforgettable day in my life. It was the day I’ve finished my exams and my mood couldn’t have been better when I came home: CL final in a couple of hours, a couple of hours that seemed an eternity. I could have sworn the time was slowing down. I was very excited and couldn’t find my place. Manchester United playing in the final! I turned on my computer and made a playlist with all of my Untied chants and songs.

Because I don’t like the commentators from our National Television I decided to watch the match over the internet. I regretted this decision later though - ESPN. I found a stream and began watching. The pre-match was rather boring and useless for an United fan, with most pundits talking about Chelsea and how great they were.

United’s Midfield Magician

Torque | May 31, 2008

On May 30th, 2007, the Manchester United website confirmed that the club had agreed in principle to sign Anderson from FC Porto for an undisclosed fee, reported to be approximately £18m. On June 29, 2007, he was granted the move was completed on July 2nd, with Anderson signing a five-year contract. The youngster was friends with Portuguese speaking team mates, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani, prior to joining the club so it was easier for him to adapt and understand what was going on during the first training sessions.

TT Link Me

funkdoctorspock | May 20, 2008

Inspired by ESPN page 2 columnist Bill Simmons (One of my favourite sports writers, although he gets minus marks for selecting Tottenham Hotspurs as his EPL club and calling Manchester United the “New York Yankees” of the EPL), Terrace Talk will debut a weekly segment of “TT Link Me”.

With so much information being tossed around during a 24 hour news cycle, at times it can become extremely difficult catching every quality article, video or news. Thats where you come in.
