Adriano’s Brazilian Retreat
Jorquera | January 17, 2008What’s up with him these days? Reportedly he has joined Sao Paolo on loan to get back to form and rebuild his career. He lost his way when his father died and since then it has been straight down hill for him. The solution so far has been the problem, and relying on partying and alcohol have gotten in the way of Adriano becoming one of the world’s deadliest strikers, something that was beyond a doubt a few years ago.

Personally, I’m not sure what to think of him after the tough time he’s had. On one hand the media has put him under pressure, with their constant stalking, picture taking and incesant criticisim. Fans always had high expectations for him (including me even though I’m not an Inter or much of a Brazil fan). However, his stupidity has played a part as well. At times, it looks like he almost gets his career back on track, starts scoring goals and then is caught partying the night before a match. I understand the need to party and relax once in a while but on the night before the game is utter stupidity. It seems he wants the trouble.

You never know how much truth there is in the media so it is hard for me to judge. There is no doubt that he is an awesome player and a huge talent but if he can’t handle his personal life and the reckless media (which whether he likes it or not, is part of his life), then there is no way he can be a top class player again. This time I think he is on the right track. Escaping the limelight of Milan and returning to Brazil, gives him a chance to return to his former self. The best cure for Adriano, is just to relax and enjoy the game again, whether playing football or spending it with his friends. This brings me to my next point, the much discussed concert visit with a can of beer.
Every player needs time to unwind and relax, but I have mixed feelings with this entire beer topic. The media have labeled him as a recovering alcoholic who started drinking at a concert. It isn’t a crime to drink beer and it shouldn’t necessarily affect his form. However, if he’s truly a recovering alcoholic as the media says, then drinking at a concert is just more of the same from Adriano. I wouldn’t judge him solely on speculative facts about his personal life and what we know has been filtered through journalists ready to spin a story. Maybe Adriano needs a rest from all the media fireworks.
Some people have already said his career is over but I think that’s little over-exaggerated. He is still 25 years old and has a long footballing career ahead of him. All he needs is some time to get over his problems and get his life back on track. We all have our problems, and Adriano just needs some time to deal with his. He seems motivated to get back on track and with a little strength, and will power he will become one of the best player’s in the world again.
Have a happy recovery Adriano!

Its been quite sad to see Adriano’s play on the pitch sharply go south due to him turning to the bottle. He’s a fabulous striker when fit and has been dynamite for Inter Milan and Serie A.
The move to San Paolo on loan hopefully will help him get his football, but more importantly his life back on track.
Good Luck Adriano and all the best.
