Rafael Da Silva: United’s Right Back

mg91 | October 6, 2008

Manchester United have long been renowned for its successful youth policy which sees United bring in a host of youngster possessing great quantities of raw talent and developing them into world class talent. Our first team alone can still provide many examples of players who have come up from our youth system. The most notable include Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Wes Brown, all who have won major honours with Manchester United. Those that have since moved on from United also include some very successful and talented footballers. Nicky Butt, Phil Neville and of course David Beckham have all had distinguished careers and can thank their education in football at United for their success. Read the rest of this entry »

Video of the Day: Untied vs Chelsea - Sweet Old Memories

Torque | September 21, 2008

A very important match is coming up, with Chelsea at the top of the table and United managing to win only one of the last three matches. United fans hope that is the match that will put us back on track, while others expect a thrashing victory for Chelsea.

For now, let’s enjoy some sweet memories from matches against Chelsea:

Manchester United 1-0 Chelsea: Great Fletcher Tackle

Chelsea vs. Manchester United: Preview

mg91 | September 20, 2008

So, Chelsea’s bickering and complaining has, again, got under the skin of the officials. John Terry’s red card for a cynical foul on Manchester City’s striker Jo has gone completely unpunished and has resulted in the FA embarrassing themselves once again. The rematch between the two finalists of last season’s Champions League final between, Chelsea, the runners up and, Manchester United, the reigning Champions of Europe, will be eagerly anticipated by all, but perhaps none more so than John Terry himself, who will be seeking to make up for his embarrassing miss in the Champions League final penalty shootout. EPL Post-Match: Liverpool vs. Manchester United

mg91 | September 15, 2008

Liverpool vs. Manchester United. A game that needs no introduction really, it is the clash between to the two most successful football clubs in England’s history and it’s a game that I want to see United win more than any other. The victor of this match undeniably gets bragging rights and perhaps more importantly, a massive confidence boost that can usually see them winning the next three or four games that follow. Berba In - Ronnie Out?

Torque | September 12, 2008

The arrival of Dimitar Berbatov has strengthened our attacking force, but could this move be the catalyst for Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure?

As you have noticed, last season, due to the lack of a striking options, Ronaldo was more of a striker than a winger. By the end of the season I got used to seeing our 4-4-2 formation turn into a 4-3-2-1, with Wayne Rooney on the left, Carlos Tevez on the right and Ronaldo moving up-front. Video of the Day: 20LEGEND

Torque | September 8, 2008

He may have ended his career at the beginning of the 07-08 season, but “the baby-faced assassin” will always remain in our hearts.

Appointed as the Manchester United Reserve Team manager for the 08-09 campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjær will be instilling the same game winning, humble attitude which he so elegantly possessed throughout his playing career.

I would like to present some of Ole’s most beautiful goals.

Video of the Day: ManU(cho)

Torque | September 3, 2008

Our first Angolan player, who signed in January, but couldn’t get a work permit, has finally arrived at OT. Some fans can’t wait to see him in action, some say he’s not up to United’s standard. Whatever you think of Manucho, I invite you to enjoy his goals for Panathinaikos:

In the Shadow of The King

opm | September 2, 2008

‘66 was a great year for English football.
Eric was born.

Hailed as the most influential player of the most influential team in British football, Eric Cantona was the catalyst for some of Manchester United’s greatest successes of the 1990s. With his swagger and a unique termperament, Cantona welcomed the limelight of Old Trafford and quickly became a crowd favorite and as Dimitar Berbatov has pointed out, he never smiled either. Even with his abrupt exit from the greatest stage, his many brilliant goals, are cherished as some of the greatest footballing memories that the Old Trafford faithful have had. One cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,
Seven great football stalwarts conceded victory,
Seven men will never play again who met destruction there,
The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester

Matt Busby’s boys were flying, returning from Belgrade,
This great United family, all masters of their trade,
The pilot of the aircraft and the skipper Captain Thain,
Three times they tried to take her up and twice turned back again.

The third time down the runaway disaster followed close,
There was ice upon the wings and the aircraft never rose,
It ran upon the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned.
And seven of the team were killed when the battered aircraft burned.

Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor who were capped for England’s side.
And Ireland’s Billy Whelan and England’s Geoff Bent died,
Mark Jones and Eddie Colman, and David Pegg also,
Before the blazing wreckage went ploughing through the snow.

The trainer, coach and secretary, and a member of the crew,
Also eight sporting journalists who with United flew,
and one of them was Big Swifty, we never will forget,
the greatest English ‘keeper who ever graced a net.

They said that Duncan Edwards had an injury to his brain,
They said that Jackie Blanchflower would never play again,
Matt Busby he was lying there, the father of the team
Six months or more did pass before he saw another game

Oh, England’s finest football team its record truly great,
its proud successes mocked by a cruel turn of fate.
Seven men will never play again, who met destruction there,
the flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester

The Flowers of Manchester. It leaves a lump in my throat, every time I sing it. I’m sure it’s the same for multitude of Manchester United supporters across the world. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Has Ramsey Chosen Arsenal?

Torque | June 10, 2008

The recent articles about Aaron Ramsey were pointing to United as favorites for signing him. Last week, Cardiff manager Dave Jones spoke in favor of United, saying that a transfer to United would be a perfect foundation for a bright future

“United are the major force in European football, if not the best club in the world, and with the squad of players they have that domination is set to continue for some time to come. I believe Aaron can go there and play a valuable part in that in the future.”
