When the lineups were announced, my initial reaction was to scratch my head and wonder what on earth Sir Alex was thinking. Rooney and Ronaldo relegated to the subs bench. Only one forward starting. Ferdinand declared fit to play in what was surely a big risk. Evra nowhere to be seen. Silvestre starting.

It’s been a year since the historic 7-1 victory against Roma in the same stage of the same competition. Many of us hope that United will find the strength to get another stunning result, but most of us will be pleased with a quick victory so that United can be ready to face Arsenal on Sunday and get the 3 points to extend United’s lead to 6 points.

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. It is April and it’s Champion’s League quarter finals time. Roma is the only Italian club left in the competition and they are currently second in Serie A, with dreams of domestic success still alive and well. On the other side are Manchester United, reigning Premiership champions and league leaders, that have played some fabulous football of late that seems to be on another level.

With the first half of the season completed, it is now time to analyze how well Roma have performed during the campaign thus far. Overall I am happy with the quality of their performances. They have achieved their main objectives, not leaving much to be unhappy about, except a few incidents which may be a minor cause for concern.
