EPL Post-Match: Wigan Athletic vs. Manchester United

opm | May 12, 2008

Another week and another United legend faces his old team, trying to deny them the points that would seal their destiny as champions of England. This time Steve Bruce had the limelight placed on him to honestly motivate his team, with the media having their doubts. Little would they know that what would unfold, would be a hard fought battle between two clubs from the northwest.

Middlesbrough vs. Manchester United: Preview

opm | April 6, 2008

Last time United played Middlesbrough, the put on a masterclass performance from Ronaldo, Nani, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney. The prototype of the constant interchanging football team, full of spirit and audaciously creative in their passing worked to perfection at Old Trafford. In their current form it is difficult to see how United will not repeat history.

Manchester United vs. Liverpool: Preview

opm | March 22, 2008

Since 2004 the upsurge in United’s fortunes has been founded on defensive solidity centered around Rio Ferdinand. Only allowing 5 league goals at Old Trafford this season testifies to his importance in the current campaign and further underlines his importance to United’s retention of the Premiership trophy. His absence tomorrow would be a massive blow to United and will play a major part in not only the way the punters place their bets, but in the confidence level of each team moving forward.

Champions League Preview: Manchester United vs. Lyon

opm | March 4, 2008

Rain soaked and weary, United seemed as if they were beaten before they had even made a single pass. It must have been miserable getting on that plane, back to Manchester and in retrospect I can’t say time has healed the wounds of last April. All the papers went on at length how decidedly United were beaten and outclassed by a Milan side led by Kaka and an almost divine right to advance. It was all too much to bear as a United fan, and I did everything I could to ignore the media coverage. It’s hard to imagine how much worse it must have been for the players and the manager who have hungered for European glory for a decade.

On The Cusp of History

RobsonLegend | February 27, 2008

We stand on the cusp of history at Old Trafford this season. As this is typed, Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of breaking George Best’s club record of 32 goals in a season scored from the winger position.

EPL Post Match: Newcastle United vs. Manchester United

Torque | February 23, 2008

After a crushing victory over the Magpies in January, the Red Devils started the game convinced that they could repeat that amazing result. Earlier in the day the Gunners were held to a draw after a late equalizer by James McFadden at St. Andrew’s Stadium. The fact that Arsenal slipped was most likely the boost of confidence the Reds needed.

Road to Wembley: Fourth Round

opm | January 28, 2008

There were a number of subplots to what would be a great day for the Reds. I was surprised that I hadn’t heard more media hype about Dimitar Berbatov coming to Old Trafford. Usually The Sun would be completely consumed with catalyzing transfer gossip, however it seems that a new manager and the complete dismantling of Arsenal the previous week was enough to qualm any creative rumors. In the build up to the game, I heard more about Juan Ramos’ refusal to open a bottle of red wine if his side lost, than I did about the Bulgarian’s supposed transfer.
