An 11-year-old boy has died after being shot in the head, according to ambulance chiefs.
A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 19.30 to Fir Tree public house car park on Fir Tree Drive in Croxteth, Liverpool.
"We treated an 11-year-old with serious gunshot wounds. We removed the child to Alder Hey Hospital in a critical condition."
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said a young boy was shot at around 7.30pm in the car park of the Fir Tree pub in Croxteth.
She added that no-one has so far been arrested in connection with the incident and she had no further details about the incident.
Reports said the boy was playing football with two friends when he was shot by a teenager who rode past on a BMX bicycle with his face covered by a hood.
The ambulance service could not confirm the claims, but a spokesman said the 11-year-old had been wearing his football kit at the time.
He said one of the bullets had hit the boy in the neck and that paramedics had still been working on the victim when he arrived at Alder Hey Hospital.
