I disagree. I think he is a very good player and has been absolutely tremendous but i havent witnessed many occasions where he has shown great leadership. You dont have to be a captain to be a leader and not all captains are good leaders. Ie rio has always been a leader type figure even when he wasnt captain and the likes of gallas, torres and reo-cocker used to be captains. However none of them are good leaders. Ive never seen
For me, having Rio in our defence has been just as important as having ronaldo attacking. The fellah saved us on so many occasions and kept his concentration throughout the season.
He is great in the air, reads the game well and keeps his nerve (except when he kicked that steward). His tackling is superb too.
He puts on a performance of the the same standard no matter who partners him. Brown, vidic, oshea, it doesnt matter.
Great leader too, leads by example and motivates the team.
honourable mentions to evra, carrick, rooney and tevez. They all performed exceptionally well. I am impressed by carrick's performances this season. His response to man united signing hargreaves was very professional and he fought his way back into the team after having a few shockers. There were times where i really thought he didnt know what he was doing, he had no confidence in himself whatsoever. Well done for him for recovering and showing people what he can do.
Tevez is a machine. He just never stops running after the ball. Even when there is no point in it any more, he just chases it until he gets it. Scored some very important goals this season too.
Rooney has also been great. He hasnt scored as many as he would have hoped for but his contributions to the team are outstanding.
