Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed his current crop of players as the finest he has managed since arriving at Old Trafford 21 years ago.

Manchester United made light of Wayne Rooney's absence through injury at the weekend to record a 2-0 victory over Blackburn that takes them to the Premier League summit.

Cristiano Ronaldo's double was enough to send the United faithful home happy, with Ferguson's side now unbeaten in ten league games.

After what was a somewhat slow start to United's campaign, new boys Anderson, Carlos Tevez and Nani have all begun to find their feet in Manchester; producing some stunning football in the process.

And it is such free-flowing performances that have had the veteran purring as he eyes his tenth title.

"I believe this is the strongest squad I've ever had, so much so I think I would be pushed to name my overall best team," he told the Daily Mirror.

"We have young players led by Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo and now joined by the likes of Carlos Tevez, Nani and Anderson.

"This is a good young team coming together and they have great courage in the way they want to play. They want to win something and the signs are good. We have a great chance of doing that this season."

im not too sure whether or not this side is as strong as the sides in the 90s. The tactics and style of play is definately more advanced, we are a lot more versatile and we're much quicker, but is the squad stronger?
