MIGUEL Veloso is hoping to impress Sir Alex Ferguson when Sporting Lisbon face United this week.

The champions have targeted the highly-rated midfielder with European scout Martin Ferguson making several checks on him season with a view to a £10m deal.

Sporting have reputedly already knocked back an bid of £8m – but United may tempt them with the offer of Brazilian twins Fabio and Rafael Silva on loan as part of the deal.

Veloso – who has a £10m get out clause – has already suggested he’d welcome a move to Old Trafford, where he could team up with compatriots Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.

He admits he can’t wait to take on United in the Champions’ League on Tuesday.

“The best game of my career so far was when we played Manchester United,” said Veloso.

“They are a great team and it is the dream of any footballer to play for such a club.”
