Over the years TOAS Mikontalo has inhabited a countless number of students from all over the world. 'Mikkis' is one of the most known (both liked and disliked) dormitories in Finland. With the currently ongoing renovation, Mikontalo will be reborn. However, before this, one thing has to be done... MIKONTALOLIGHTS is here!
The object of MIKONTALOLIGHTS is to create the world's physically largest colored graphics platform by using the windows of Mikontalo's D-staircase as light pixels. The platform is used to play Tetris and other games and present demos created by the students of Tampere University of Technology. The project will climax on December the 4th when the new lights of Mikontalo will be lit. The goal is to gain global visibility for Tampere University of Technology and the rich student culture of the Uni.
Students of TUT have been daydreaming of a suchlike event for years. That is why MIKONTALOLIGHTS is the most noticeable event in the 42nd jubilee year of the Student Union of TUT. MIKONTALOLIGHTS is fully carried out by students who are willing to give their work contribution besides their studies. TOAS and the building contractor of Mikontalo Rakennustoimisto Palmberg Oy have made it possible to accomplish MIKONTALOLIGHTS by providing Mikontalo as a platform for the project.
