Alex Ferguson hails 'boy wonder' Anderson

Scholes is expected to be out until the new year with the injury, sustained in training ahead of United's Champions League tie at Dynamo Kiev six weeks ago. But Anderson, a £19 million summer signing from Porto, has given United a new dimension, and Ferguson says the youngster is merely justifying the faith United had in signing him.

Ferguson said: "Anderson has been absolutely superb. The boy has definitely got something special. There was an urgency to get him once we'd scouted him, even though he'd broken his leg and had been out for four or five months.

"The reports we were getting were saying that he was the best young player in the world. At the time, I was saying, 'For God's sake, let's calm down a bit here.' I knew he had real potential, but I didn't want to put labels on him like that. But we've been delighted with him and he has proven himself to be a true central midfield player.

"He can tackle, he's lightning quick, he's brave and he can pass the ball. What he's got to prove is his goalscoring ability because that's something that Scholesy has always given us."

Cesc Fabregas has been tipped as a possible Footballer of the Year after inspiring Arsenal to the top of the Premier League, but Ferguson thought Anderson outplayed him in the 2-2 draw at the Emirates last month. "Fabregas is going through a golden period at Arsenal," Ferguson said, "but I thought Anderson dominated that position."

I have to say im a bit surprised by how well he adapted. His pre-season games went in any way spectacular and i feared we bought kleberson v2 but since then i think he got his touch back and has been immense.

i think to say he is the best young player in the world or to compare him to fabregas is a bit much. However, he has great potential and seems to have everything. He can even tackle and track back all the time. This is probably just meant as a confidence boost for Anderson.
