Default Is Gary Neville's Career Over?

Normally I would put this injury news in the injury thread, but I feel that this bit of news now deserves its own thread.

Neville has been out with a broken ankle (was it ever disclosed as this?) since March and has been pretty much out since. He had a lil cameo a couple weeks ago, but lacked a considerable amount of fitness.

He was all set to start in CL competition against Roma, when he had another 'setback'.

Now, since United haven't seemed to disclose exactly what is wrong with Neville, it could only mean that the severity of the initial injury has not been corrected. Or muscle degeneration in his calf has occurred.

In either event, the question now becomes, "is Gary Neville's career over?" and will be forced to retire?

Your thoughts and vote plase.

Injury setback for Man Utd skipper Neville

Manchester United captain Gary Neville has suffered another setback in his recovery from long-term injury.

Neville has not featured for the Red Devils since breaking an ankle against Bolton at the beginning of March.

It was originally anticipated the 32-year-old would be back for the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

After failing to make that deadline Neville suffered calf and thigh problems which delayed his comeback even further.

The long-serving defender was able to appear for the reserves against Sunderland last month.

However, another second string appearance was scrapped last week and now Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Neville will not fly to Rome for the Champions League encounter as previously suggested.

'Gary has had another setback,' said Ferguson.

'Obviously it is disappointing. He has gone back to the specialist for him to have another look at it but at the moment there is nothing positive on that at all.'

Ferguson has previously suggested Neville's problems are not career threatening, which is a stance he is still sticking to despite the latest unhappy news.

'It is not getting serious,' he said. 'He just keeps getting niggling injuries.

'It is a concern that he gets small setbacks every time he gets ready to play. We need to sort it out and get him back as soon as possible.'
