the virus was caused by the mutated miseals virus that doc created at the start to cure cancer.
As for the trap the dark walker learned after seeing neville set the trap to catch that other dark walker earlier. Also there is a news paper clippoing earlier in the movie saying dogs are able to come out at dusk so thats how they attacked him incase anyone was wondering.
I liked the movie, not the greatest you'll ever see but a solid effort.
