Manchester United supporters have been condemned for trying to sell commemorative Munich scarves on the internet.

All 76,000 United and Manchester City fans at Sunday's game at Old Trafford were given a scarf in memory of those who died in the Munich air disaster 50 years ago.

On Monday, some of the scarves were being hawked on auction sites as fans tried to cash in, although eBay have now banned their sale.

A spokesman said: 'Due to the unique and commemorative nature of the scarves, we will not allow the sale of these items on the site.'

Former Busby Babe and crash survivor Albert Scanlon said: 'You don't go to these things to make money.'

Visitors to eBay had been invited to bid up to £150 for scarves and, in what was seen as an attempt to spoil the auction, bidding for a scarf and commemorative programme had reached £15,100.

United secretary Ken Ramsden praised City fans for their observance of the minute's silence.

'Manchester came together and that for us was wonderful,' he said. 'When the City fans left the stadium, they were singing: “We are impeccable” and I couldn't agree more.'
and some fans accuse the clubs of being sell outs

im actually shocked that people have that much money lying around such that they can pat 15,000 for a scarf. Although i suppose some people were probably just bidding for a laugh.

they were nice scarfs btw.

edit: take a look eBay.co.uk - munich scarf, Football Memorabilia, Football, Football Shirts items at low prices
