We take into account both domestic and European performances, plus the relative difficulty of each team's league, to find out who is the best team in Europe.

United stay on top, since domestic cups do not count in our rankings, while Arsenal stay second despite their disappointing draw against Wigan.

Internazionale tumble to fifth after their Champions League defeats to Liverpool, but stay above the Reds on the strength of their domestic form.

Barcelona's red-hot European performances contrast with dismal domestic form, yet they stay third ahead of Roma.

With four English sides in the Champions League it is no suprise to see Chelsea and Liverpool also in the top seven, while Everton are the pick of the UEFA Cup bunch - for the moment at least.

EUROPEAN POWER RANKINGS:

1 (1) Manchester United - 23.93

2 (2) Arsenal - 22.88

3 (3) Barcelona - 22.50

4 (5) Roma - 21.37

5 (4) Internazionale - 21.23

6 (7) Chelsea - 20.74

7 (8) Liverpool - 20.66

8 (12) Porto - 19.80

9 (6) Everton - 19.43

10 (13) Bayern - 19.12

11 (16) Sevilla - 18.69

12 (9) Fenerbahce - 18.50

13 (10) Real Madrid - 18.36

14 (11) Milan - 17.96

15 (17) PSV Eindhoven - 17.66

16 (19) Fiorentina - 17.15

17 (15) Hamburg - 17.11

18 (-) Rangers - 16.84

19 (18) Olympiacos - 16.67

20 (-) Bayer Leverkusen - 16.47

We have 1.05 points ahead of Arsenal. If we keep up with great matches in the PL and CL then we'll stay up there till the end of the season.
Real and Milan have fallen down after CL exit.
Interesting why Lyon aren't there. I guess they suffered too, after the CL exit.

Alex Ferguson's side scraped past Derby at the weekend to maintain their position as the best team on the continent, while Barcelona could not capitalise on second-placed Arsenal's draw with Middlesbrough as the Catalans drew with Almeria to remain in third.

Serie A wins for Roma and Internazionale saw the Italian pair hang on fourth and fifth respectively, while over in Spain Sevilla's win over Valencia saw them climb into eighth.

Everton's defeat to lowly Fulham sees the Toffees slip into 10th, despite their midweek UEFA Cup win over Fiorentina, while the weekend's CIS Insurance Cup final - which does not count towards our rankings - means Rangers tumble to 20th, despite claiming their first silverware of the season.

Yes, they have reentered. I was just curious why they weren't there in the previous ranking. Let's see if they will be able to stay in the Top 20. It's all up to their domestic performance. Not that I would care about them

The Champions League match versus A.S. Roma looks to be a good one. Hopefully we do a good job holding Totti in check. Six more days...

We take into account both domestic and European performances, plus the relative difficulty of each team's league, to find out who is the best team in Europe.

Alex Ferguson's side scored two domestic victories last week to help them edge towards the successful retention of their Premier League crown and, perhaps more importantly, the inaugural European Power Rankings gong.

United currently lead second-placed Barcelona by just under two points - a hefty defecit in Power Rankings terms - after Arsenal's defeat to Chelsea saw them slip into third.

That win for Chelsea, coupled with a disastrous week for Internazionale which saw them pick up just a point from two games, means the Blues leapfrog the Nerazzurri into fifth.

Elsewhere, Bayern and Real Madrid swap positions down in 12th and 13th respectively while Lyon's win over Paris St Germain bumps them up to 17th.

EUROPEAN POWER RANKINGS:

1 (1) Manchester United - 24.27

2 (3) Barcelona - 22.50

3 (2) Arsenal - 22.31

4 (4) Roma - 21.29

Arsenal's going down
Interesting why Loserpool are still on the 7th place. They should have fallen after Sunday's defeat!

European Power Rankings

We take into account both domestic and European performances, plus the relative difficulty of each team's league, to find out who is the best team in Europe.

United were held to a draw by Middlesbrough at the weekend but, thanks to their commanding 2-0 win over Roma in the Champions League, Alex Ferguson's side not only managed to hang on to top spot, but also to extend their lead.

Their nearest rivals are now Barcelona who, despite drawing with Getafe in La Liga, leapfrog Arsenal into second largely thanks to their 1-0 win over Schalke earlier in the week.

The Gunners' two 1-1 draws in their double-header with Liverpool sees them slip into third, even though the results were kinder for the Reds, who jump into fifth.

But the biggest movers this week are the Italian teams in the top half of our table. Roma's defeat to United proved costly and Luciano Spalletti's side drop four places into eighth, while Internazionale move up three places into fourth after a 2-0 win over Atalanta.

Chelsea's midweek conquerors Fenerbahce remain in 10th, although their impressive victory coupled with a win in the Turkish league closes the gap on Sevilla in ninth.

Finally, Porto celebrated winning the Portuguese title at the weekend by inching up a place in the Power Rankings table to seventh while Bayern's draw with Getafe in the UEFA Cup means they end the week on 13th.

EUROPEAN POWER RANKINGS:

1 (1) Manchester United - 24.44

2 (3) Barcelona - 22.29

3 (2) Arsenal - 21.67

4 (7) Internazionale - 20.63

5 (6) Liverpool - 20.45

6 (5) Chelsea - 20.10

7 (8) Porto - 20.09

17 (16) Lyon - 16.30

Wow, Inter up 3 positions! About Roma: they found out, again, what it means to mess with the best
