Yea I get the feeling he'll make a speedy recovery, at least thats what I am hopeful for.

We really need that 4th striker to take that strain off our strikers. At this rate they'll be burned out by the time it really gets to deciding who wins trophies.

Here's some badly needed good news on the injury front. Apparently Scholes knee op was a complete success, and SAF expects him to be 100% once he returns.

Scholes will be like new signing, says Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson has declared Paul Scholes' recent knee operation a '100% success'.

Scholes has been ruled out until the new year with a knee injury, robbing Manchester United of their senior midfielder at a time when they are looking to depose Arsenal at the Barclays Premier League summit.


The recent form of Brazilian international Anderson means Scholes' presence has not been missed quite as much as Ferguson might have feared so far.

However, the United boss recognises how influential Scholes is to his team and, when the 32-year-old former England star eventually makes his comeback, Ferguson feels it will be like having a new signing.

'The operation Paul has had on his knee has been 100% successful,' Ferguson said.

'The surgeon has reported that the condition generally of his knee was excellent with no concerns.

'He will be back, refreshed and eager, in January. It will be like signing a new player in the transfer window for the second half of the season.'

Wayne Rooney, the Manchester United and England striker, will return to club training at Carrington today just 11 days after damaging his ankle, according to sources within the England camp.

Rooney's quick recovery from an injury sustained playing head tennis comes too late for him to feature for England against Croatia tomorrow, although the popular forward will be present in the dressing-room before kick-off to help fire up Steve McClaren's side for a game they must at least draw to qualify for Euro 2008.

England's head coach has already contacted Rooney and invited him down to Wembley. McClaren is keen for his most important unavailable players, like the injured Rooney and John Terry, to gather as the squad make the final push towards Austria and Switzerland. It is all part of the united England feel McClaren seeks to foster.

United themselves will be delighted at the sight of Rooney training. When he suffered the injury on Nov 9, United predicted that Rooney would be out for four weeks. Depending on how his ankle reacts to training, he could be back in competitive action far more quickly than the initial prognosis.

It is a tribute to Rooney's determination and United's medical staff that he is back so swiftly. United's Premier League match with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday will be too soon for him, although he could feature in next Tuesday's Champions League Group F tie against Sporting Lisbon.

Sir Alex Ferguson's champions have played only one game in Rooney's absence, a Premier League victory over Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford.

No long-term fears for Neville



Sir Alex Ferguson insists Gary Neville's injury nightmare will come to an end – and say he has no fears about the defender’s long-term future.

The United skipper hasn’t played since March and has had to endure several aborted comebacks. But the 32-year-old is pencilled in to play for United’s reserves against Sunderland on Thursday next week. He could return to action in time to ease the burden of the hectic December schedule.

Sir Alex firmly rejected questions from reporters that Neville may not return, or if he did, wouldn’t be the same player again.

“That’s the extreme fear, we’re not at that point with Gary at all,” said the boss.

“I look at his training performances and he has been very good. The problem is he has had setbacks. He had one last week which was a disappointment. He was on the verge of coming back and I was considering him for the game against Dynamo Kyiv.

“But he’ll play in the reserves game next week. Gary probably needs two or three [reserves] matches and then he’ll be back in the frame.”

Park close to Reds return

Reds midfielder Ji-sung Park could be back in action by the end of December as he continues his excellent rehabilitation work.

The 26-year-old Korean star has spent eight months on the sidelines with a cruciate knee ligament injury, which he sustained in United’s 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford in March.

He completed the full 90 minutes but was later sent to renowned knee specialist, Dr Richard Steadman, for surgery in America.

It has been a long and arduous road to recovery. Although he is not yet in full training and remains under medical supervision, Ji has occasionally taken part in first-team exercises in recent weeks.

Park joined the rest of Sir Alex's squad on Friday and the Reds boss says the livewire winger is edging ever closer to a return.

“Ji is back training and he will almost definitely be playing by the end of December. He is doing really well,” said the boss.

“He may have to wait until the beginning of next year, but he is certainly on the way back. He’s doing good training.”

There was further good news for United as Park’s fellow long-term absentees, Mikael Silvestre and Ben Foster, are also recovering well from serious knee injuries.

“Mikael Silvestre, as we predicted, could be back in March,” added Sir Alex. “And Ben Foster is also doing some good work. We expect him to be available in February, or maybe March.”

Actually, the injury in August was a hairline fracture in his foot, and this current injury is to his ankle. The only question for me is simply how soon will be be picking up where he left off. I sure hope he comes right back to banging in better than a goal per game for what? seven games?

It's strange... I don't really think of Rooney as a footballer... I think of him as a weapon
