Saha injured... again.

Initial worries were ligament damange, out the reason of the season. Those worries seem to be unfounded. He'll be out for a couple weeks.

Man Utd dismiss fresh Saha fears

Manchester United have dismissed reports that striker Louis Saha has suffered another major injury setback.

Several newspapers said on Sunday that the injury-plagued 29-year-old had damaged knee ligaments and could be out for the rest of the season.

But chief executive David Gill told BBC Radio 5 Live the France international had a "slight knock - he is certainly not out for the rest of the season".

United would not be doing any business in the transfer window, Gill added.

"I don't think there will be any purchases in the transfer window," he said.

"We invested heavily last summer and believe we have a very good squad that can really go for the honours in the balance of the season.

"We will assess in the summer as well always do and see where things have gone well and not so well, and see where we can strengthen."

United have been in sparkling attacking form this season despite Saha's intermittent appearances, largely because of the form of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and new Argentine signing Carlos Tevez.

Gill said on Friday that the club would not sell Ronaldo at any price, and he said on Sunday that Rooney fell into the same category.

"We made it clear Cristiano would never be for sale," Gill said. "Wayne and a number of other key players fit into that category.

"Rooney is a world-class footballer and 22 years old, not only a great player but very popular around the club. He absolutely loves the club and we will make sure we keep him for many, many years."

Saha has been dogged by a series of injuries since his £12.8m move to Old Trafford from Fulham in 2004.

He had knee surgery in the summer and has scored four goals so far this season.

Injuries meant Saha started just 18 league games for United last season, scoring eight goals as they won the Premiership title.

United have been given a welcome boost with the news that Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Louis Saha are all close to full fitness.

Owen Hargreaves has also recovered from a knock and is available for the Barclays Premier League trip to Reading on Saturday.

Scholes has been out of action since October after injuring knee ligaments before United's Champions League clash with Dynamo Kyiv. He returned to training over Christmas and will be checked out by United's medical team next Thursday.

If given the go-ahead, he will start full training and could be available for the FA Cup fourth round clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday week.

“We are waiting for clearance from the medical staff next Thursday," assistant manager Carlos Queiroz said on Friday.

“We think the medical staff will give Scholes clearance to start full training. If he does get the all-clear he can play immediately. It’s a possibility [he could be involved against Tottenham], or at least he will probably be on the bench.”

The influential midfielder has been training for a number of weeks now and is said to be in excellent shape. “His fitness is fantastic," added Carlos. "He’s training like an 18-year-old. He’s very excited, he can sense that he’ll be back soon."

Neville, meanwhile, could fly out with the squad to Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening for their four-day training camp.

The Reds' defender made his second comeback in the Reserves last week after ten months on the sidelines with ankle ligament trouble. He felt his hamstring in the match against Everton and was forced off at half time.

But Sir Alex Ferguson and his coaching staff will make a decision about the skipper after training on Friday. If he's left behind, he will play for the Reserves against Bolton next Wednesday.

Saha is also ahead of schedule in his race to overcome a knee complaint. The striker missed United's 6-0 demolition of Newcastle last weekend with the knock and the club confirmed he would be out for around three weeks.

But Queiroz says is a step ahead in his rehabilitation and is likely to be back "earlier than expected".

MANCHESTER United defender Nemanja Vidic could miss the Barclays Premier League visit of Portsmouth on Wednesday after succumbing to a virus.

The Serbia centre-half was absent for the 3-1 FA Cup fourth round win over Tottenham yesterday and manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already raised doubts over the 26-year-old's participation in the Pompey match.

"Vidic had a virus so he didn't play against Spurs," he told MUTV.

"The doctor went to see him yesterday and he was quite poorly. In fact, his whole family aren't too good at the moment.

"We'll see what he's like during the week but whether he'll be ready for Wednesday, I don't know."

Neville rejects retirement talk

Manchester United captain Gary Neville has denied speculation his injury problems could force him to retire.

The England defender has not played first-team football since last March because of ankle ligament problems and has picked up several niggles too.

Neville, 32, said: "I understand that because I've been out so long there is talk about whether I'll make it back.

"But I'm training again and I'm focused on getting fit. Once I get fit, I've no doubts at all that I'll be OK."

Right-back Neville made a goalscoring return for United last month as he played 45 minutes for the club's reserve side.

But his comeback has been put back several times because of a series of minor injuries problems.

"Ironically my ankle has been OK for the last couple of months," added Neville.

"I've just picked up little knocks here and there that have lasted a couple of weeks or so; they can really set you back when you've been out for so long.

"But I'm doing the best I can to get fit and I won't put a timescale on my return."
