Default Rosetti to referee EURO 2008 Final

Rosetti to referee EURO 2008 Final

Having taken charge of the opening game of UEFA EURO 2008™, Italian referee Roberto Rosetti will also bring the tournament to a close having been appointed for Sunday's final at the Ernst- Happel-Stadion in Vienna.

He will be accompanied by compatriots and assistants Alessandro Griselli and Paolo Calcagno for the final, with Swedish referee Peter Fröjdfelt acting as fourth official. Since first tasting UEFA competition at the UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals back in April 2002, Rosetti has enjoyed a rapid rise to the very highest levels of football.

Rapid rise

That was underlined when he was one of the European referees chosen for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He was given four appointments in Germany, including the second-round meeting between Spain and France, and at 1.90m was the tallest official at the finals. The Turin-based hospital manager, who speaks English and French and enjoys playing tennis in his spare time, earned his FIFA international badge in 2002 and has been a highly-regarded match official in Italy for several years. Now a regular in the UEFA Champions League, one of his first major continental club appointments came when he took charge of the 2004 UEFA Intertoto Cup final between FC Schalke 04 and FC Slovan Liberec.

Other appointments

Rosetti worked at the 2003 FIFA U-20 World Cup and then, in summer 2005, had three games at the FIFA Confederations Cup, which served as an ideal warm-up for the World Cup the following year. Meanwhile, Switzerland's Massimo Busacca will take charge of the semi-final between Turkey and Germany in Basel on Wednesday, while Belgian Frank de Bleeckere has been chosen for Thursday's other last-four meeting between Russia and Spain in Vienna.

Good decision imo, i mean it had to be between him and Lubos Mikael, but the slovack refereed the UCL final so this is a fair decision tbh.

Pool added too, please post here your thoughts about this decision -Rosetti's delegation for the final- and if you guys had other referee in your mind for this big job ?
