The inaugural Power Rankings title is likely to be decided over two games in Manchester and Barcelona at the end of this month after the top two both progressed to the Champions League semi-finals, where they now will meet each other in what promises to be a titanic battle.


We take into account both domestic and European performances, plus the relative difficulty of each team's league, to find out who is the best team in Europe.

Manchester United hold on to top spot in our league having beaten Roma 1-0 to book their mouthwatering date with Barcelona before ending Arsenal's Premier League title hopes with a thrilling 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Catalan giants remain in second place, despite having been held to a 2-2 draw by Recreativo in La Liga, and largely thanks to their Champions League win over Schalke.

Liverpool storm into third place after their win over Arsenal in the third instalment of their much-hyped trilogy was followed by a comfortable 3-1 victory over Blackburn at the weekend.

And with Chelsea moving into fifth - despite a 1-1 draw with Wigan - unsurprisingly that means four of the top five spots are taken by Champions League semi-finalists.

Just Internazionale in fourth place are intruding on the all-conquering quartet's dominance, with the Nerazzurri continuing to pick up regular points in Serie A.

The week's biggest fall guys are Fenerbahce, who failed to bounce back from their Champions League exit at the hands of Chelsea when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Ankaraspor at the weekend. The Istanbul club drop to 11th and a top ten finish is now looking like a tough challenge for Zico's men.

I think Rangers went up because of their wins in the Scottish Cup and UEFA Cup. Rangers are at the top of the table now after they won against Celtic back in March as well as the draw with Dundee. I guess that's why they moved up.

i think real madrid should be higher considering they are 9 points clear in the league.

did anyone see the form table on match of the day the other week. between us, chelsea and arsenal.

it was something like the last 8 games. 22 points for us, 20 for chelsea and 8 for arsenal.

A disappointing goalless draw between Manchester United and Barcelona means there is no change at the top of the European Power Rankings this week.


United continue to lead despite not having won a game over the past week - their stalemate at the Nou Camp followed a 1-1 draw at Blackburn - as Barca could not find a win either.

The Catalan giants were held by Espanyol in La Liga at the weekend to leave United tantalisingly close to claiming the inaugural Power Rankings title.

Elsewhere, Julio Cruz's wonderful diving header at Torino lifted Internazionale above Liverpool and into third.

Despite Rafa Benitez's side winning 2-0 in the Premier League at Fulham, their midweek draw with Chelsea in the Champions League prompted a slide to within 0.06 points of Arsenal - who climb from sixth to fifth after strolling past Reading at the Emirates.

Chelsea may have beaten Everton away to keep alive their Premier League title ambition, and trumped that with a priceless away goal in the Champions League semi-final at Anfield, but they drop two places from fifth to seventh regardless.

While mid-table remains stagnant, Milan jump up two places to 14th following their 5-1 annihilation of relegation likely lads Reggina at the San Siro - a game which saw Brazilian midfielder Kaka grab a hat-trick.

Hamburg's 0-0 draw at Berlin sees them move the other way, while Werder Bremen climb one place from 17th to 18th by virtue of a 2-1 away win at Rostock on Tuesday night.

Fabio Grosso's winner for Lyon against Strasbourg takes the French league leaders to 19th.

Finally to Rangers, who fall from 17th to 20th as a result of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's last-gasp winner for Celtic in the Old Firm derby. Their place in the top 20 appears secure, however, with Benfica a massive point behind in 21st.

Manchester United still lead the way after reaching the Champions League final and getting their Premier League season back on track.

But their main rivals - as in real life - are now Chelsea, not Barcelona. Avram Grant's men have made an impressive late-season charge and are now hot on United's tail.

Barça plummet from second to fifth on the back of some truly useless domestic form, while Liga champions Real Madrid's dreadful season in Europe means they remain outside the top 10.

Bayern Munich were also crowd champions last weekend, but drop three places to 16th as a result of their UEFA Cup exit. Zenit St Petersburg do not even feature in the top 20 thanks to a poor league record of seven points from six games.

Manchester United have won the Premier League and look to have one hand on the inaugural Power Rankings title.


Manchester United top the pile with a handy cushion after wrapping up their 10th Premier League title in 16 seasons.

The last-minute equaliser Chelsea conceded against Bolton had no effect on their league position, but sees them drop to third in the Power Rankings behnd Chelsea.

Internazionale led these rankings for much of the season but have now dropped to fourth after another stumble in Serie A.

Yet the nerazzurri look in rude health next to Barcelona, whose season has fallen apart completely. They drop two more places to seventh.

One of the biggest surprises is that Liga champions Real Madrid are as low as 12th - that position comes courtesy of their dire Champions League form this term.

UEFA Cup finalists Rangers prop up the table in 20th, while Zenit St Petersburg do not even feature after a poor start to the domestic season in Russia.
