Default MLS - David Beckham - 03-31-2008, 08:26 AM

Any else watch Becks and the Galaxy go down in flames to Colorado?

Terry Cooke, the former United bust, scored a goal and had two assists to lead his team to a 4-0 win over the Galaxy.

Becks had a few nice crosses but the lack of finishing hurt his squad.

I hope Becks can have a great year. Would love to see soccer get big here in the States and him having a big year will be big part of that.

David is a rose growing in a pile of turd with the Galaxy.

Completely wasting his talent there. Everytime I see him play in MLS I think to myself, "you know, if Real Madrid & Fabio Capello didn't screw him over, he would still be playing for them."

I really wish him the best with the Galaxy, but they are in for a looooooooooonng season. They're rubbish.

he's not wasting his time. The lad is getting PAID! Did anyone really think that he wasn't doing it to get a paycheck? While he's completely aligned his monetary aspirations with the success of the league, let's be honest he wasn't doing it out of the goodness of his heart.

GM, I think you meant his wife is getting paid

I do think he could have played another 2-3 years in Primera Division as he is not that old.

Well he gets enough money there to up the standard of the MLS.Just thinking that: someone offers you that kind of salary, at the end of your career and your club seems ready to let you go.Now that happened in this case.Talent was unfortunately overpowered by money.

I think if he would have stayed in Spain he would be a better player than he is at LA Galaxy at the moment. But it's all Capellos fault in first place, when he left him out all the time... I don't think it was an easy decision for David to leave and now he's staying at LA Galaxy for 2 or 3 years, which are hopefully going to be better than the first season and the first start to the new season and that's it. I don't think he will be the best player over there...

And dpak3000 as you are from the States I have a question... I didn't recognise it last year, but why do you have percent and not points in your league table? I'd really like to know that. The same for the two different leagues with only 6 teams, I think it has to do with time difference within the country, but I'm not sure...

If dpak3000 doesn't mind I can answer this, well MLS is based upon the same system as the NBA, MLB, NFL, and NHL. Basically any American sport that is viewed by any American.

The MLS is split down in the half to the Eastern and Western conference.

The Eastern Conference consists of:
  • Chicago Fire
  • Columbus Crew
  • DC United
  • Kansas City Wizards
  • New York Red Bulls
  • New England Revolution
  • Toronto FC.

The Western Conference consists of:
The Eastern Conference consists of:
  • Chivas USA
  • Colorado Rapids
  • FC Dallas
  • Houston Dynamo
  • Los Angeles Galaxy
  • Real Salt Lake
  • San Jose Earthquakes

Originally San Jose Earthquakes used to be in the MLS till it was closed or whatever you want call it. They are the new expansion team of the MLS.

The MLS table is split into three different types. One for just the Eastern Conference and then the second one is just for the Western Conference. The last table is with all of the teams together. It does use a point system the same as the Premier League. There is no percentage in the MLS table.

The only bad thing about the MLS is the salary cap and the amount of teams in the MLS. I hate that it's divided into both the Eastern and Western conference. Yeah. That's the most annoying part of it.

I think David will do fine in the MLS. I think if it weren't for Capello, he would still be in Spain. I did see their first game of the season. He did make a lot of crosses and particularly he didn't really attack on the wing. He stayed very deep throughout the game. He played more like a right back.

That's about it.

Couldnt have said it better myself. Furthermore, the playoffs in MLS downgrades the regular season (just like any other American sport) and I don't think the MLS will ever be able to adapt to a regular season winner = champion structure because of how American sports are constructed.

BTW, did you guys see Beckham's goal today? Composed, clinical finish. His first goal ever in MLS season play. You could tell he was damn excited about that goal today. He also had the assist on the 2nd goal and could've had like 4 more assists had his less-than-brilliant teammates been able to finish. Hopefully he keeps this fine play up.

Beck's interview immediately after the game w/ Landon Donovan

I'll try to keep everyone posted on Becks and his performance after each of his games.

I watched the game today as well. Beckham and Donovan were class and Kline (sp?) did well enough, but the remainder of the team was shit. Beckham really should have had 3 assists instead of 1, but Gordon is awful. Becks lined up a couple shots from outside the 18, which I haven't seen him do in quite awhile. I'm pleased to see him get a goal; Donovan, too.

Beckham should get his ass back to Europe and drag Donovan along with him.

i hope he does well in the MLS, he suits the style of play there more, now that he is alot slower.

i dont think he should return to europe, against france he was much to slow. Brown was basically playing right back and right midfield.
