Default The most under-rated players/ unsung heroes thread - 04-07-2008, 01:41 PM

well, here are a few of mine:

Maloney - Aston villa.
very good player imo. He has a good shot on him and can be dangerous going forward. He did very well at celtic and was definitely not under-rated there but it seems since his move to villa, he is a little less appreciated.

Gareth Barry- Villa
well, he is starting to make a name for himself in the england squad but i still think he is very much under-rated. He is pretty good going forward as well as being pretty solid defensively and is usually very comfortable and composed on the ball. However he really doesnt get the praise some other midfielder who perform similar roles at bigger clubs get.

Robert Green - West ham
well he is highly rated by some but i just think he is one of those players that easily gets forgotten. He put in solid performances week in week out for west ham and at times their defence is a joke it has to be said. He is definately not under-rated by west ham fans, i admit that.

Scholes - man united
Well, i know he is hardly a low profile player or under-rated by man united fans but he just seems to be so over-looked by some other football fans. I think although he does get a fair bit of credit from time to time, alot of his through balls, passes, runs and positioning get over looked or forgotten. For such a legend, he doesnt get the amount of praise he deserves. Im not sure why really, I think its because he is usually very reserved and doesnt really do as many interviews as some other players at united.

i had a few more but ironically enough, i cant remember them now.

So who do you think are the most under-rated players in europe and why?

Lukas Podolski. I know he's a great, young player. He's got talent, he plays very well.

Yet every time, when it came to papers speculating the future transfers of a big club as United, Real or Barca, I never saw Lukas on the list.

Xavi - Barcelona
Extremely talented box to box midfielder who has saved Barcelona's skin from draws/losses too many times this season. Excellent off the ball positioning, very good passing ability and a wicked shot.

Theo Walcott - Arsenal
Expectations for this lad have been unbeilievabily high. He disappointed initially. Speed of the game, momvement with the ball was definitely hurting him. And then mid season he got it. He uses his pace and new found off the ball movement to position himself better for scoring opportunities. The last handful of matches, young Theo has shown the potential which was placed on him. When Wenger finally decides to put him in the forward position instead of wide left, he's going to be scoring in bunches.

Michael Carrick - Manchester United
Any United fan that says Carrick should go, should be forced to wash there mouth out with soap. Carrick has been nothing short of outstanding this season, to go along with his amazing first season with the club. Being asked to change his game to include defensive midfieilding, Carrick has made the transition with ease. His pin point passing have triggered so many attacking opportunities its not funny. Has quickly meshed his play with Anderson and watching him play alongside Scholes is footballing at its finest.

Djibril Cissé - Marseille
Brilliant player who was absolutely magical for Auxerre. Picked up by Liverpool and due to poor management along with shite players, he never realized his potential. Was shipped off to Marseille where he has been largely responsible for the teams magniciant display. This season when Marseille were languishing in the bottom three early on, management thought Cisse wasn't good enough to start. When it donned on them that, "we made a massive error," and finally decided to start Cisse, Marseille has had a massive turnaround. They are now sticking 4th in Ligue 1, with Cisse 3rd in league scoring.

Yup that sums up Liverpool.

Where's Flamini for Arsenal? he's been tremendous this year and easily should get the gong. He can't even get love from a list of under-rated players.

Flamini has been tremendous but has he really been under-rated this year?

I mean he has been linked with the likes of milan and been talked about endlessly by Arsenal fans and pundits alike. He is a hard worker too and deserves all the credit he gets. Perhaps most improved player would suit him more than most under-rated, in my opinion. He could barely get a game last season and this season he is first choice over Gilberto who was captain for the most part of last season.

Peter Crouch - The goal scoring machine that is Peter Crouch gets snubbed and ridiculed by far too many England and Liverpool fans. He wins balls in the air (obviously) and he's very smart and skilled in his knockdowns. Plus he has a great first touch and has skill with the ball at his feet that nobody gives him credit for. I'll say it: I'd take him at United.

"Collar turned up, back straight, chest stuck out, he glided into the arena as if he owned the fucking place. Any arena, but nowhere more effectively than Old Trafford. This was his stage. He loved it, the crowd loved him" -Roy Keane on Eric Cantona

Hardly a low profile player but I have to give alot of props to Patrice Evra for how well he has held up this year. I remember in the preseason after an incident when he was flipped in the air and seemed on the brink of being fucked I thoguht that if he didnt tone it down he'd suffer a massive injury and miss significant time. Well, he hasnt toned it down and he has pretty much been there for us whenever we needed him this season. Amazing how he has kept himself on the field and we have to count our lucky stars considering the lack of depth we had at that position for much of the season.

Jamie O'Hara (Spurs)

Made his debut in of all games, the North London derby against Arsenal late last year. He's been impressive in the few Spurs matches that I've seen this season.

A natural left-footer, which in and of itself separates him from most of the English top-flight players, he's shown a willingness to get stuck in and seems as comfortable pushing up as he is in his own half.
