Benfica has done a lot of summer business.

Is this the new manager trying to make his mark with "his" players, or are the players coming in addressing needs which Benfica had to fill?

Also, maybe its me, but I don't think new players should be around that eagle. Thats an injury waiting to happen.

Aimar to Benfica?

Real Zaragoza midfielder Pablo Aimar is set to join Portuguese giants Pablo Aimar, according to reports emanating from Spain.

Aimar joined Zaragoza from Valencia in the summer of 2005 and featured heavily for the next two seasons. But last season the tricky Argentine international playmaker missed several bits of the season due to successive injuries.

Zaragoza got relegated to the Spanish Segunda Division at the end of last season and are now preparing for a mass exodus of their players.

Aimar has been linked with a number of clubs outside Spain, including Premiership side Newcastle United, but it has been confirmed that he wants to join Benfica where he shall rejoin with his former Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores who was appointed the new coach of Benfica this summer.

Benfica have won the race to sign Real Zaragoza star Pablo Aimar.

Benfica and Zaragoza had been locked in negotiations for several weeks and it appeared as though the latter's last-minute demands had made the deal fall through.

However, Benfica's Sporting Director, Rui Costa, travelled to the Spanish city on Tuesday to proceed with talks and finalize the deal for Quique Flores' main summer target.

It is reported that Aimar has signed a three-year contract and will cost Benfica a fee of €7,5 million.

Although he travelled with the rest of the Zaragoza squad to their pre-season training camp, Aimar was given the green light to move to Benfica this afternoon and is expected in Lisbon tomorrow to be presented to the press.

The former Valencia man did not hide his joy for signing for Benfica, saying: "Fortunately, I have always been able to choose where to play in my career. I had other offers, but I always wanted Benfica."

Newcastle fans probably want to shoot someone now, because earlier in the day he was "almost" a Barcode.

Benfica have been very active in the transfer market this summer and hopefully the team has enough time in preseason to gel.

thanks mate, Aimar is a really good choice to replace Rui Costa...

i think now we need a good left winger, because we only have Angel Di Maria..

Possibly Benfica will sign more three new players, a left winger, a right defender and a striker..
Quique Flores want a squad with 25 players...
