Default Bayern Honoured With Four Stars - 05-10-2008, 08:53 PM

Tremendous achievement for a team that has won the Bundesliga 20 times.

Congrats.

Quote:
Bayern Munich are set to become the first team in Bundesliga history to be allowed to wear four stars on their shirts.

Bayern clinched their 20th Bundesliga title last weekend after gaining the single point they needed against Wolfsburg and will be permitted to add a fourth star to their shirts for next season.

Werder Bremen, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund have won the title three times since 1963 and have one star on their shirts.

Teams that have won it between five and nine times get two stars. At the moment that honour is held only by second division Borussia Mönchengladbach. Having won it 10 times, three stars are granted.

The Bavarians have now become the first club to win the Bundesliga 20 times, so will have the honour of adding a fourth star to their shirts

“Bayern are the first club to have this honour and regarding their advance on the other clubs, they will be on their own for a long time” Bundesliga director Tom Bender declared.

Bayern also won the national title in 1931/32 but that was before the Bundesliga came into being and explains why in some circles, it’s said they have 21 league titles.

Though I'm not a big fan of Bayern Munich [actually don't like them at all :P] in Germany you can't help but notice them at the moment. After they had been very crappy last year they got Luca Toni and Franck Ribery and they are on top again, thanks to the foreigners.
