Midfielder backs centurion for international future

Beckham collected his 100th international cap as he started alongside Hargreaves in England's midfield in the 1-0 friendly defeat away to France in March.

Speculation has been rife that Beckham's appearance in Paris could be his last in an England shirt, but Hargreaves believes there is room for the Los Angeles Galaxy star in manager Fabio Capello's plans.

England face USA and Trinidad & Tobago in friendlies on 28th May and 1st June, respectively, as preparation for the start of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers in September begins to gather pace and Hargreaves believes Beckham can be an 'addition' to Capello's side.

Experience

"I admire Becks," Hargreaves told Skysports.com. "He is the best passer I have ever played with.

"There is always room for someone like that. He is an addition to any team - not only footballing wise, but also as a person.

"He is great to have around and he has great experience at this level. He has achieved a lot.

"Whether he starts or whether he doesn't, then he is a great addition to the team."

Revenge

Meanwhile, Hargreaves is looking forward to proving England are capable of winning World Cup qualifying Group 6, but claims he is not looking for revenge against Croatia after again being drawn with Slaven Bilic's side.

Croatia recorded an infamous 3-2 Euro 2008 qualifying victory at Wembley in November, which cost England a place at this summer's finals, but Hargreaves insists the priority will be to secure a place at the World Cup in two years' time.

"Revenge is a strong word," Hargreaves added when asked if he was looking for payback against Croatia. "But at this level it is important to compete against each other.

"There are no ill feelings or anything like that. It is just a game of football and they will be going to the European Championship and we won't.

"It is a tough group, but we are one of the favourites. We would like to prove to some people that we are capable of winning the group and going on to the World Cup."

It was quite disappointing that Beckham resigned as England's captain after WC '06. Obviously he was informed that he would not feature in qualifications for Euro '08 and we all saw how that worked out.

England's squad need veterans that take their practicing seriously and are dedicated to the cause.

Capello would be wise not only to keep Beckham for WC '10, if he is still capable of top flight NT football, but in consideration as a captain. The team loves him and he's well respected.
