Default Is Beckham Burning out?

Check out the stats for both of his last two matches.

I think he can handle this schedule. The money alone is enough motivation.

LA Galaxy fear David Beckham burn-out

David Beckham's hectic club and international schedule is already starting to concern Los Angeles Galaxy.

In Sport blog: Wembley 'a gym with an arch'

Beckham played 90 minutes in the Galaxy's 3-0 Major League Soccer defeat to rivals Chivas, less than 30 hours after turning out for England against Germany at Wembley.
Boiling over: Beckham gets his point across

While Beckham's return failed to inspire his team to victory, he was at the centre of a second-half scuffle which resulted in Chivas defender Alex Zotinca and Galaxy midfielder Kevin Harmse being sent off.

Beckham had been fouled by midfielder Jesse Marsch, but it was Zotinca and Harmse who exchanged blows and were dismissed for violent conduct.

While Beckham's determination and attitude could not be questioned, Galaxy general manager Alexei Lalas is concerned that the England midfielder's health could suffer as a result of his double life.

Lalas said: "We have a vested interest in this player and we have spent a tremendous amount of money to retain his services.

"We want to make sure we get our money's worth and that he is healthy and both physically and mentally ready to go when he plays for the Galaxy.

"I'm not going to deny there comes a point when your body can't do it any more.

"If at any point we felt it was detrimental to his health or ability to help our team we would take action."

Beckham has made it clear he aims to prolong his England career for as long as possible and is desperate to assist Steve McClaren's side qualify for Euro 2008.

Lalas understands Beckham's need to fulfill his England ambitions but says that Galaxy must do all they can to protect their big signing.

"We would never stand in the way of a player representing their country," Lalas said.

"David's love of England and the honour that it is for him to represent his country is evident from the first time you talk to him."

"But there will certainly be moments when we need to sit down with him and do what's best for our organisation and him."

Chivas USA's Marsch, meanwhile said he apologised to Beckham for the challenge, but said that it followed a tackle by Beckham earlier in the game.

"He had taken a piece of me before that," Marsch said. "The tackle was harder than I would have liked it to have been and I apologised to him. I told him I respect what he's about. We are on two different teams, it's not like we're hanging out in free time. It was competitive and that is the way it goes sometimes."

Two matches in basically what works out to two days and a round-trip across the Atlantic would take its toll on ANYBODY, I don't care how fit they are. What did Lalas/the Galaxy/the media expect?

I think Becks is going to have to cut back on his schedule. It seems neither the Galaxy or England NT don't want to say anything to him, but it's going to affect his performances for one of the two.

For some reason, I feel he's going to get a backlash in the US because of his commitment to England. Why? He's going to miss the Colorado game due to "exhaustion"... there is definitely going to be more games missed...

I wish him all the best though and I hope he can pull if off if both teams don't intervene.

it's still a testament to his fitness that he can travel that much, deal with the fatigue and still play well. I am proud to wear my Becks jersey. He's truly all class.

^Agreed. Yallop should have sat him for the game after his flight back to the US, or at the very least for the second half. He's just getting burned out, and worse yet, it's being done on a bumb ankle. He sat out the Galaxy's last game, though (and they got creamed, of course). I hope to see him against Israel, so I hope he gets plenty of rest over the next few weeks; the Galaxy are all but finished anyway, no need to destroy Beckham's ankle in the process

I think it's quite clear now that the man needs some rest.

niraj shah is on a distinguished road
Smile Becks need to retire and go into hiding

He needs to quit/ retire from international football, and then concentrate on how to play football in america and then slowly retire from football. i hate the guy hes too over rated too many players are out there who are better than him. He just had one game going for him long range passes and free kicks. Know reason why he made it big was because man utd build their play around him and his good looks and this skinny wife. He won nothing at real madrid only one cup and one league. And internatioanlly nothing. And in america hes going to win nothing but get paid buckets full of money for bring in revenue for the club. Galaxy know hes shit, they are only interested in the money, just like beckhams.

If he's deserving of a callup based on his form, then why?

He doesn't need to learn anything about "how" to play football in the US. If anything, there are quite a few MLS players who could stand to learn some of his work ethic.

Right. The fact that he was an assist leader for the majority of his career at United was just besides the point, I suppose?

It's a team sport. The fact that he hasn't had much success since leaving Old Trafford is as much his fault as it is every single one of his teammates since.

David Beckham isn't the greatest player in the world. He may not even be the best right-winger in the world. I would say that he's been well-aware of that. Don't hate the player--hate the media machine that built up the hype.
