Default Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle

From the BBC:

Newcastle have ended Sam Allardyce's managerial reign after eight months.
The club, currently 11th in the Premier League, said the decision had been reached by "mutual agreement".

Allardyce, who was in charge for 24 games, said: "I am disappointed to be leaving Newcastle but I wish the club all the best for the future."

Former captain Alan Shearer has been strongly linked with the post but chairman Chris Mort said: "A new manager has not yet been appointed."

First-team coach Nigel Pearson will take charge of the team for Saturday's Premier League meeting with Manchester United.

Earlier on Wednesday, Allardyce had attended a news conference ahead of that game but gave no hint that his time at the club might be coming to an end.

Indeed, the 53-year-old had spoken at length about his plans for the January transfer window.

However, shortly afterwards, Newcastle announced news of his departure with a statement on their official website.

Allardyce took over in May following Glenn Roeder's resignation after eight years in charge at Bolton.

The Magpies began the season with a 2-0 win at the Reebok Stadium but he came under fire from fans unhappy with the team's style of play.

The pressure built with a run of three straight league defeats over the festive period - although midfielder Nicky Butt was among those who urged the club to keep faith with Allardyce.

His last game in charge was a 0-0 draw at Championship Stoke in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

He becomes the eighth Premier League managerial casualty this season, leaving with a record of won 8, drew 6, lost 10.

Since Kevin Keegan left 11 years ago, six permanent managers have now come and gone at St James' Park.

Alan Shearer anyone?

This is nothing short of disgusting.

You know, I'm all for teams wanting results immediately, but the Newcastle job was no quick fix. It would take at the very least a season to sort out there problems. Now with Big Sam removed, add another year.

Big Sam was unfairing done in. What in blue blazes did the Geordie support think he was going to bring to the table in terms of style of play? His style was ingrained in Bolton and look where it got them? top half of the table consistently.

Newcastle does not have the class to win games 5-0 and to be quite frank, there is nothing wrong with winning games 1-0 or 2-1 in a scrappy manner. 3 pts is 3 pts.

I hope Shearer is selected to take over. When he falls flat on his face with the shite talent they have over there, I want to see exactly what the fans say.

Ridiculous decision.

i don't think the treatment of Sam is right. Only after half of the season, and he's out. People just don't have the same patience like in the past. A perfect exemple is Sir Alex. We all know the history....to bad

Would say this is the second hardest job in english football tbh, behind the England job obviously. The pressure from the fans and the board do not help any manager settle into the club and frankly, anyone who takes the job isn't fully right in the head.

After hearing about Harry Redknapp's recent behaviour and links with Newcastle, I'll be extremely baffled with him, if he choses to take the job.

I see Big Sam at Sunderland for next season.

Stupid decision from the Newcastle board though, should've given him more time.
