great job coming up with a Roma thread...

i think their re-inforcements this transfer season has been really good, as now they have some solid players for almost each position..

if they keep chivu (which it looks like they will), the defense would be a MONSTER!

panucci----mexes---juan----chivu

top class defense IMO.

Defense looks great (even without Chivu).

Transfer season has been great too. We haven't sold any important players (yet) and have added depth to our team. Now we have got back-up to every position and they are all equal or almost equal to the starters. That is very good. Also our younger players (Aquilani, Vucinic) have now got more experience and should have more impact than last season.

I can't wait for the SuperCoppa!

No one has left yet but there is a big possibility that Chivu might be sold to Inter.
We have added Juan to our defense and also bought the full-ownership of Cassetti.

So our defense should look like this. If Chivu is sold then Tonetto will take the left-back spot.

Chivu--Juan--Mexes--Panucci

The SuperCoppa is a week away. We just had our last friendl that didn't turn out to be that friendly. We took 2-0 lead against Juventus but then manages to let 5 in. I'm not too worried about that. When we get all our players back and defense sorted out we should be fine. If we however should play like this against Inter too defensively we are in big problems but I'm confident.

Half of the season is over and time to look back and see how things have been this year. Overall I can be satisfied as a Roma fan. All the major objectives have been accomplished even if Inter has slipped away in the Scudetto race but they have been in an unbelievable form as well.

The other bad thing from the first part of the season is injuries. We have had many injuries to our key players and because of that we have never been able to use our strongest line-up. Of course the injury to Totti has been the biggest blow but Pizarro (at the start of the season), Aquilani, Taddei and Mexes later on have been missed a lot.
Due to many injuries we have been very inconsistant and have never really found our best form this season. Hopefully with all the players back for the New Year we will find our best form and also Mancini who has managed to avoid injuries but has been a shadow compared to his last year performances.

In Champions League we did well, got through to the next round and will fancy our chances then.

New signings have been good, those who have played have been good but there have been disappointments too. Juan has been clearly the best signing. Also I can be happy with Cicinho and Giuly. Cicinho has been good when he played but still lack defensive skill and needs time to adapt. Giuly has got more playing time and has done his job even if he hasn't produced anything special.

After all second part of the season is were the things are decided so there are a lot of interesting matches ahead!

I still feel that Roma can challenge for the title.

As you mentioned, Inter have been in unbelievable form and I fully expect them to drop points in the 2nd half.

Also, I feel that Roma haven't peaked yet this season. From the games I've seen, the midfield hasn't been playing fluiding football. Interplay between the players isn't there.

Is Roma looking to dip into the transfer market in the winter period?

What about the rumoured sale of the team?

Half of the season is still ahead so there is still a chance but it is all up to Inter atm. If they don't start losing points we don't have much to do.

That's true we haven't had the best of season's and the form hasn't been exactly the best. Part of the problem is injuries. We have never been able to line our strongest XI. Always someone is injured. The other part is new signings. We had quite a few new signings and they need/needed time to settle. Also some players how haven't been injured also haven't found their best form, Mancini to be more exact. He played an important role in our last year's success and this year he just hasn't managed to get to that level he was last year. However I believe after a Christmas break things will start to get better.

Well, there certainly aren't no sales made in winter. Mancini is rumored to leave because his current contract expires in 2009 and he hasn't signed a new contract yet. The other one with who there have been problems regarding new contract is Ferrari. Both players want to stay but want more money than the club wants to offer. I believe there will be a deal between the club and Ferrari but it will be harder for Mancini. He wants more than our salary cap is and the club won't offer him more. The best deal he can get is 2.5 + 1 million in bonuses. Actually the 2.5 million is our salary cap but the club is willing to add bonuses to that. Mexes signed a new contract in the summer and he now has the same deal, 2.5+1.

In winter I doubt there will be many new signings. There are positions that would need more firepower but nothing that couldn't wait till summer. If there are any new signings then one of them will be without a doubt a striker. Mutu, Di Natale, Rigano, Lucarelli and Fred have all been linked with us. Hard to say who will come and if someone will come at all. Lately the Mutu and Di Natale rumors have picked up. Di Natale played under Spalletti at Udinese and he has been rumored to join us for over a year now.
Mutu is the latest to be linked with us and it seems serious. Mutu is said to be happy in Florence but higher wage and Champions League football can persuade him move to the Eternal city. Honestly I don't like Mutu very much. There is no doubt he is a very good player but I'm worried about his personality, especially when things aren't going too well. As long as Spalletti feels Mutu is the right choice for Roma I will back Mutu.
