Sir Alex Ferguson has handed United's number 34 shirt to Brazilian youngster Rodrigo Possebon.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who completed a transfer from Sport Club Internacional last month, is expected to keep learning his trade in United's Reserves, but will now be eligible for senior duty if required.

The primarily right-footed youngster, who turns 19 next week, is a tall, athletic holding midfielder. He takes over the squad number vacated by Ryan Shawcross following his transfer to Stoke City.

Possebon has joined Anderson as the second Brazilian in United's squad but, while his compatriot has been a sensation in his first season at Old Trafford, the Reds' wealth of midfield talent will make it difficult for Possebon to make a senior impression this season

Taken from the official site. There was talk of this deal last summer after we signed Anderson. Guess its now official.

High hopes for Possebon

United have high hopes for new signing Rodrigo Possebon, according to the club's Academy manager and Reserves boss Brian McClair.

The midfielder, who turns 19 next week, joined the Reds last month from Porto Alegre-based Sport Club Internacional. He has since been handed the No. 34 shirt, but is likely to spend the remainder of the campaign plying his trade with the Reserves.

He is the club's second Brazilian signing folllowing the acquisiton of Anderson from FC Porto last summer. And McClair believes Possebon has a bright future ahead of him.

"Rodrigo is a tall, elegant midfielder who fits into the idea of a modern footballer," he told the Manchester Evening News. "He has very good ability and is a box-to-box player rather than your silky tricky midfielder. He's very steady.

"Our scout in Brazil John Calvert-Toulmin, who recommended our Brazilian full-back twins Fabio and Rafael Silva, spotted Rodrigo and we've been impressed.

"His father is of Italian descent and so Rodrigo had an Italian passport. Because of that he is effectively European so all the paper work was sorted out easily.

"Rodrigo also speaks very good English which has helped him. That makes a big difference.

"He is young and has come a long way from his home to England but he has settled in very well. He's very level headed and we are pleased to have him."

I've had a look on youtube but havent been able to find any clips off him, ohh well heard he could play with the reserves soon so I'm sure if he does well there will be some clips of him soon

Fabio and Rafael Silva. One is the brazil U-17 captain. They came over in january, they are friends with Anderson (naturally) and he gives them a lift to training now.

No need to look for a video on youTube just the name Brazil enough. I hope he turns out good, because if there is always a comption everyone will do there best to keep there place on the team.
