Default Giggs could become Man Utd coach

This would be a highly beneficial appointment for United. They get one of the greatest Manchester United player to serve as a coach. Along with Ole, this could definitely be the beginning of something great.

I'm curious to see how Giggsy balances coaching with his ambassador role. I'm guessing the latter will occur during the summer and odd break in his coaching schedule.

Anyways, good luck to Giggs in June.

Quote:
Sir Alex Ferguson could offer Ryan Giggs a coaching role at Manchester United once the Welshman quits playing.

Man Utd boss Ferguson has hailed 34-year-old Giggs' decision to study for his Uefa 'A' licence with the FA of Wales in Aberystwyth in June.

Giggs could follow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from dressing room to boot room.

Ferguson said: "A future with us in relation to a position at the club is something we will be looking at because he has been a fantastic example."

Giggs attended Manchester City's School of Excellence in his early teens but joined United after Ferguson made a personal visit to his house on his 14th birthday.

RYAN GIGGS FACTFILE
Wales caps: 64
Wales goals: 12
Wales debut: Oct 1991 v Germany (Nuremberg)
Last Wales cap: June 2007 v Czech Republic (Cardiff)
Place of Birth: Cardiff
Date of birth: 29/11/1973
Height: 5ft 11in
Weight: 11st
Clubs: Manchester United

The Cardiff-born star turned professional on his 17th birthday, scoring in his first league start in a Manchester derby, and has since been a virtual regular in his 17 years at Old Trafford.

One-club man Giggs is United's most-decorated player and the former Wales captain is set to break Sir Bobby Charlton's appearance record at United.

The winger marked his 100th Champions League appearance in midweek by helping the club to a 1-1 draw in Lyon.

Ferguson said: "Ryan is 34 now and with all players who have had long careers, they start thinking about what they are going to do when they finish.

"Players like Ryan, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes will follow the pattern of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I am sure of that.

"If they take their coaching badges, it is a further addition to their CV in what they can offer the game.

"There is no doubt when it comes to personality, experience and lifestyle, they are absolutely perfect for a club."

Giggs would still have to go on and gain one of Uefa's Pro Licences after taking the 'A' Licence if he wanted to manage at the top level.

Old Trafford has been a good breeding ground for managers, with the likes of Gordon Strachan, Steve Bruce, Paul Ince and Giggs' compatriot Mark Hughes all graduating from playing.

"Ryan has indicated he wants to come and do his Uefa 'A' Licence with us in Aberystwyth in June," said FAW technical director Osian Roberts.

"It's great news for us in Wales and I think it's also great news for football that someone of Ryan's calibre and status will stay in the game.

"With all his experience and expertise he's going to be a great and valued member to football in the future."

it seems only natural. Many of SAF's ex-players/captains gave a shot at coaching, from Robson to Hughes and Keano and so on. Giggs is a professional and a true great, I think he can achieve many things as a coach, but he will need a bit of practice near Fergie

That's great news. I would like to see Giggs as United manager(of course after some years). He spend his entire career at United, he is simbol of this club, i'm sure that in his heart there is no place for another club and he will do anly what's best for United.

Not many great players became marvelous coaches or managers in the game, but Giggs is different! All the remarkable trophies SAF won were related somehow to Giggs!

Talking about him taking this coach role [and by SAF's guidance],he will do a great-great job in order to develope skills of youngsters and his presence will always
benefit the club!

I think Giggs would be a beautifully balanced coach. He'd have a wealth of knowledge and experience to offer and I absolutely agree he'd be integral in developing the young players. After a few more seasons this would be a celebrated move indeed.
