Foster set to make United return

The England cap is back in full training after an operation in the summer to correct the damage.

Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Foster's attitude during a difficult period in his career.

"You need a lot of determination and sacrifice during a time like this, " said the United boss.

"Most of the work has been done by himself. You have to get down to it. You need to work hard and not take days off.

"Ben has listened to advice from specialists. At his age it is not a problem. If he was in his 30s it would be different altogether.

"We may have had to rush him back a bit. But he is young and they are doing the right thing with him."

Yeah, really good to hear. Read the interview with him on the United site and he's definitely gone thru a lot to get back here. Guy's got a lot of heart and is a great goalkeeper.

Playing in for a relegation team and having to play in Europe are two completely things.

I rate Foster quite high. But for the rest of the season, I would prefer Kooshie to him.

Foster needs matches and he needs to be face quality competition before the "he is a great keeper" talk commences.

I agree funk. At this point in time I dont think we should be promoting/demoting anyone so as to introduce players into the squad considering the importance of these upcoming matches and the unpredictability of what to expect from players coming off time away from top flight footie. In Foster's case I think its best to re-evaluate his situation in the summer then adjust the depth chart if necessary but for now he should be 3rd choice. That said I feel the same way about Gary who if he does come back this season I'd rather he play more of a backup role then we re-evaluate what direction we are headed in the summer. We know what to expect from the players who have been there all season and unless its under exceptional circumstances(in cases where its a given that a player is far superior at that moment in time to the next) I dont feel like that switch should be made.

i think foster said in an interview that he would like to go to another club on loan until the end of the year.

Brining him in to play this season for us is unlikely and a big risk but imo he is a great player. Sure playing with watford is nothing like playing in europe but he managed to perform well with a team who lack decent defenders. Playing as goal keeper for a crap side is tougher than playing as goal keeper for a larger side imo. This is because if he played for man united he would have the advantage of playing behind some quality defenders whereas last season he couldnt really rely on the defenders.

Hopefully he could come to form and maybe even compete for the England #1 job cuz they could use him a LOT more than United.

Foster had a good match against Derby and I really hope that he becomes United's number one goalie in the future. Van der Sar takes one more season, but Foster has the chance of becoming a regular the next season. Meanwhile Kuzzy can be sent on loan, before returning when Sar retires.
