Look, all due respect to the pace of the match and the toll it takes on players physically, but we're talking about professionals here. Players in their physical primes and blessed with the benefit of millions of dollars in equipment and technology and personnel to help them stay in match-fit condition.
It's not as if we're talking about an 80-match season.
And on topic, while the return of Silvestre may in fact add depth, that's about the only plus I can see from him. I don't care how many times he's scored against Liverpool--he's been a defensive liability and I hold my breath out of fear far more than out of anticipation whenever play approaches him.

As mentioned by you, but diminished in importance which I would like to highlight and emphasize. The speed of the game, the increased strength of the players and the longer schedules teams face when they play in Europe, along with there domestic cup commitments does add up to fatigue. Try telling Carlos Tevez that he shouldn't be tired. Or players that have commitments that require them to play year round. At the end of the day, players are humans, not machines. They do get tired and at some point they need matches to rest and recuperate.
Patrice Evra will need matches to rest. As will some members of the backline. To this end, I'm a lil disappointed that Pique and Simpson weren't given more matches to play a month or two ago. The Carling Cup shouldn't be the only competition for youngsters to get a chance to shine.
Bottom line is this. Tweety may not be the best player in the squad, but he does have usefullness to the squad. Which he probably will have to show asap.
DC, I do agree with you though. I wouldn't be crying if he did pisss off to Lyon or Marseilles. His loyalty has to count for something, right?
