Queiroz enjoys greater fame than most Premier League No 2s due to his regular post-match interviews on Match of the Day. United boss Sir Alex refuses to speak to the BBC because of a row over coverage of his agent son Jason.

Benfica - the biggest club in Portugal - have given Queiroz two weeks to reply to their offer.
It is understood that United would not stand in Queiroz's way if he wanted to try his hand as a manager again but it is not known if the former Portugal Under 21 coach is ready to quit Old Trafford. It is likely that Ferguson himself will pass comment on the issue at his weekly press conference at today.
Queiroz, considered as a potential replacement for Sir Alex when the Scot eventually retires, has left Old Trafford once before, to become manager of Real Madrid in 2003.
well, there has been a lot of speculation about him this season linking him to the MLS and various other managerial posts.
I really hope he stays at united but i wouldnt be surprised if he leaves. He has been great for us and has helped us get some great players but he probably has his own ambitions. IMO its unlikely he will replace fergie and it wont be any time soon.

In fact, I have a gut feeling that Queiroz is the next Manchester United manager. Think about it. Who could you possibly find in the game of footie today that could handle the job requirements, expectations, networking for transfers and development of the youth for Manchester United?
In some games, it looks like Queiroz is managing the the team. Seen him a few matches on the touchline barking out instructions on tactical assignments and encouragement.
He's been responsible for many of the young players arriving at the club and in my mind it would be the easiest and smoothest transition for a new manager.
The players, club and fans know what they are getting and Queiroz knows whats expected of him.
He'll be turning down this offer.

There's been a lot of rumours about that United are contemplating making a move for ex-United striker, Mark Hughes to become the next manager, there's every possibility that Sparky could eventually get it.
Think about it, he's done an unbelieveable job with a Blackburn side who were decidedly average, and he's improved them no end.
I also think that Hughes knows the in's and out's and goings-on at Old Trafford after two spells as a player. Also, he would be a very popular choice amongst United fans, it would be interesting to see if we could prise him away from Ewood Park, and i'm sure Sparky would jump at the chance.
Anyway, there's every chance that Querioz could get it, i'm not ruling him out at all. Personally i can see him staying alongside Fergie for at least another two seasons.

while sure both are absolutely certainly the top two choices, there are also international managers that would at least get a good looking over.
As far as Quieroz, i'd bet the house that he's been getting groomed from the start to take of the reins, and his 1 year with Real was more of a sabbatical than anything else. My money is on Queiroz as the next manager.
I love sparky, and you lot sure do already know it. I have so much respect for him as a player, mostly for bringing back the art of the volley to old trafford. That reputation is only enhanced by his managing. That said, to step into the shoes of the world's greatest club right from the off is not an easy job, especially when it's Fergie's shoes you're filling. The thing with Sparky is that he reminds be so much of Fat Sam. Takes a minor side (both neighboring cities as a coincidence) and brings them to the mediocrity of the Premiership limelight. Whether that means that he has the flexibility to change his managing techniques in the new surroundings will be interesting, but it will take significant time for him to adapt. Fat Sam clearly couldn't

There is a reason I bleed red. United until I die.

You're 100 per cent correct to say that to step into Fergie's shoes is not an easy job.
For me, that applies to both Querioz and Sparky, as far as i'm concerned it's a much of a muchness as to who eventually gets the job, but if you had to twist my arm i'd probably prefer Sparky Hughes to get it.
Not that Querioz getting it would particularly bother me, he'd probably do as good a job.
No way Queiroz is leaving. He has been so useful, so devoted to the team that I can't imagine him leaving.
As SAF said, Queiroz is a great tactician, he brought and will bring many young and talented players who will become next United stars.
I really think he will be the next United manager, as the team has been working with him for a long time, he knows the players, the lads trust him. What kind of United fan would like to see him leaving?
really cant see this happening queiroz has been really good for united cant say its set in stone but would love him to stay cause its working really well

What on earth are you talking about? Try posting which makes sense.

Calm down, i think it was only down to a few grammatical errors. Your last sentence didn't make sense either.

Reports in Portugal said Queiroz was wanted to replace Fernando Chalana, who took temporary charge when head coach Jose Antonio Camacho left this month.
But Ferguson insists there have been no approaches from Benfica for the 55-year-old Portuguese.
"I can't speak for Carlos but I'm quite certain he'll not be going to Benfica next year," said Ferguson.
Queiroz returned to United in 2004 after a one-year spell as Real Madrid manager.
He has an impressive CV that also includes stints as head coach for Portugal, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
Ferguson added: "The Real Madrid experience was something else. It was a job he had to take.
"But Carlos learned how difficult it is. He wasn't allowed to buy and instead told to sell players."
Benfica, who have been forced to play second fiddle to FC Porto on the domestic front in recent years, parted company with their Spanish coach Camacho on 9 March.
He was replaced on an interim basis by former Portuguese international Chalana, who will be in charge to the end of the season.
I still think that Queiroz might take up either this offer or a better one should the chance arrive. It depends on when he thinks fergie will retire, whether or not he thinks he will be a replacement and whether or not he is content with being assistant manager.
Although he is a great assistant i havent seen enough of him to decide whether or not he has the personality to make it as Fergie's successor. I mean, Mclaren was a good assistant too, but look at him as a manager.
what i mean is, will he have the same respect from the players?
