Michael Carrick has insisted Manchester United's stutter on Sunday will not affect their dreams of a Premier League and European Cup double.

United's 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough and a win for Chelsea cut their lead at the top to three points, but Carrick insists confidence is high ahead of their crucial matches against Roma and Arsenal this week.

Still confident: Michael Carrick insists Manchester United's draw at Middlesbrough won't hit their hopes of winning both the Premier League and European Cup

Carrick said: "We are still in a good position so we won't get too down. Okay, we didn't win against Middlesbrough but we are up there and confident going into the Arsenal game.

"As a club we don't get carried away. We just focus on the next match. We are a good side so we will bounce back. It is not a problem. We know we are playing well and are in a good position."

Sir Alex Ferguson will reveal later today how long he expects Rio Ferdinand to be missing after the England defender suffered a foot injury. A scan found no broken metatarsal but he is doubtful for both the European return against Roma and the Arsenal match this weekend.

Ferguson is set to use Gerard Pique to solve the defensive crisis caused by Ferdinand's injury and Nemanja Vidic's absence.

Ferguson said: "Pique came on and did brilliantly [against Middlesbrough]. He was marvellous.

"We've got great confidence in the lad and he has come through very well.
After that draw[with Boro],do United still look like they are the team to go all the way? After loosing defenders due to injuries, can we fight in the CL and PL with the same form? Are we good enough or Carrick is dreaming? To be the champions of England or could we get more?

We still have 3 points. And the end of the season is not that close: 5 more games. If we concentrate, play well and don't get injured everything will be tip top.

Now it's up to Fergie to choose the right first XI for each match so that players could perform on two fronts: PL and CL.

Yes, we still have a good chance of winning the double, but we will need to be on our best form every game..All of our players, Pique, O shea etc. Without our 2 main defenders, it will be hard, but still achievable for us!

If only it was going to be that easy.

At this point, they both need victories over us far more than we need to defeat them. I have faith that Everton will be able to do us a favor or two between now and the end of the season. Them taking 6 points off both is a bit much, but I feel reasonably confident we can count on Everton snatching at least 2 points, if not 4, from them. While Bolton helped us out with Chelsea last year, I don't fancy their chances at Stamford Bridge, even in what might be a battle for Premiership survival for them. Instead, I honestly think Newcastle might be able to pull something off at St. James'.

Dropping points to Boro was a bit of a letdown, but the fact of the matter is that before kickoff, we needed 14 points to put us out of reach of Chelsea's max, which translates to 4 wins and 2 draws, so we're still right on track.
