Default United Fans Want Giggs Axed! - 04-08-2008, 04:56 PM

What United fans? You?

In fact, I'm putting up a poll from now until the end April. I want to know which supporters in here. So please vote and indicate why. You can vote for more than one selection.

I don't understand why The Sun just doesn't sell one page. Page 3. The rest of there "newspaper" is utter shite.

Who has MUTV to confirm this rubbish?

How dare they insult Ryan Giggs.

I'll leave my thoughts out until others comment.

Quote:

RYAN GIGGS celebrated his 750th appearance for Manchester United against Middlesbrough — then got hit by a storm of criticism.

United fans rang the club’s own TV station calling for him to be axed.

Even boss Alex Ferguson had a go at him during the 2-2 draw at the Riverside on Sunday.

Ferguson was furious that Giggs failed to latch on to a late through ball from Ji-Sung Park.

Giggs, 34, is United’s most decorated player with 18 major titles but, as United’s title bid stuttered with a draw on Teesside, fans were asking whether this season should be his last.

One MUTV caller said: “Can you possibly tell me why Ryan Giggs keeps getting the sympathy vote? He was woeful today.”

Another said: “I do not see what Ryan Giggs brings to the side at the moment.

“He has been a great servant and got some fantastic goals. But at the moment he’s not worth playing. He’s no threat.”

The calls prompted ex-United stars Viv Anderson and Lou Macari to jump to Giggs’ defence.

Anderson said: “I still think Ryan Giggs is a threat at times.

“I’m surprised at this stage of the season people pick on players who’ve been here a long time.”

Macari added: “The manager picks him because he feels he’s the best man for the job.

“Players can have off days or periods when you are having a nightmare.” Giggs is just nine games shy of matching Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time appearance record for United. But the Old Trafford outfit would have to reach the Champions League final and Giggs would have to play in the last five league games as well to tie Charlton’s 759-mark.

Giggs has still easily been in the top 10 for appearances among United’s side this season with 34.

But there was an indication Fergie does not consider him first-choice for the biggest games when he left him out of the starting line- up for Roma away. Giggs has one season left on his current deal and has started taking his coaching badges.

The Welsh winger, who has played for United half his life having made his debut in March 1991 at 17, is also lined up for an ambassadorial role for the club.

And whatever Giggs’ knockers say, he is already cemented as one of United’s all-time legends.

Leaders United are now three points clear of Chelsea after their draw at Boro. Giggs said: “We hope it will be a crucial point. After going 2-1 down, it’s probably a point gained.

“Some people were saying the title was done and dusted.

“But we’ve always said there are tough games coming up for us and Arsenal and Chelsea.

“We want to win every game and we’re capable of doing it.”

It is shocking to see most of the people all over the world in most of the forums , saying giggsy is done , he should bow down gracefully en all . I mean .. WTF ?

We stood behind teddy when teddy was all old , did he stop ? Why should giggsy stop for a mere blip of form . And it isnt like he has been crap , he has had a mixed season of few average games and few good games , like the one against villa the other day , he was in the mix of our attack with few scintillating passes .

Giggs - Respect ! even if he doesn't play week in week out for us . He is the most influential person in the dressing room any kid , anderson or nani can look upto !

I love Giggsy for all his service and loyalty to the club, and yes, it should be duly recognized and rewarded, but has his patchy play all season long really only been a slight dip in form?

Fact is, he's been a liability on the field for much of the season. For a team that relies as much as it does on a constant flow in the passing game, and uses the wings often, Manchester United are hurt whenever Ryan Giggs has a down game. Unfortunately, that seems to have become the norm more than the exception lately.

Perhaps it's not time yet, but it's getting real close. I can only hope he doesn't hang on to the dream too long.

I do not expect Giggs to start week in week out as i have said it in my previous post , but he wouldn't look like a liability whenever he is brought on . That , is merely a blip in the form .

I see him retiring after next season . That is when he completly makes champions out of the people who is to replace him .

Im not too surprised given the amount of muppets in MUTV phone ins.

Every year this happens and every year he goes and does something exceptional and everyone gets off from one band wagon to another.

I bet you had he scored that goal he would have got good ratings everywhere.

Giggs' form hasnt been that bad for him to be considered a liability imo. There are times when he hasnt been too influential in a match but there have been many more when he has been inspiring. I think every player goes through rough patches and i recall giggs going through one early this season but as far as im concerned, form is temporary, class is permanant.

btw, the sun is trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill here. They quote a muppet who probably isnt a man united fan and put it on the back pages.

Id rather axe brown, the fucker was the liability and he is the one who under preformed.

BINGO!!! and Dc is the winner

Sunday's draw is what has brought this to light. If we won sunday, no one would be talking about giggs. That said, why did we lose sunday? because we didn't score three goals? instead of 2, or was it because we shat the bed defensively.

you lot are having a laugh. Wesley has been hot and freezing cold this season, go point your fingers at him.

Thing is, I've felt all season long that Giggs has been a weak link in the United midfield. Ronaldo's mind-boggling play, the emergence of the Tevez-Rooney partnership, and the generally good play of the midfield rotation have all served to downplay the negative impact of Giggs' clear declination. Of COURSE it's not going to be talked about while the team is doing well and winning. That doesn't make it any less worrisome.

well for me giggs do have one season in his leg.. with the experience he has, he is surely welcome in the squad although we have nani or park.. but yet, he do not have all the energy like before to play 90min in every matches... he need rest at times..
but surely his time is coming on...
he is a legend for the club so we must be a little more kind about him for all the things he did till the rest of the season at least..

Are they sure that some of the "supporters" they were interviewing weren't instead really Arsenal or Liverpool fans?? What kinda joke is this. When I first read it, I thought it was some April fools joke that I never saw. Giggsy is a player with exceptional crossing and vision. He is also the most decorated player on the team and the teammates adore him because of it while opponents fear him. He may be a bit older than others but if you are a real United fan, you know that whenever people start to doubt Giggsy, he ALWAYS comes back stronger and then mysteriously those doubters go away and everyone loves him. Giggs is the best winner I have ever seen. Can anyone really doubt that?

I agree with DC and Mozart. Brown has been the most inconsistent player on the team. When Neville gets back in form, I expect Brown to sit his ass on the bench until the year is over and then move on to another club in the summer. He doesn't want to sign a new deal after all the years at United. Why isn't it BROWN that should be axed??
