Default Fergie Plans Summer Spending Spree - 04-14-2008, 03:54 AM

FOX Sports on MSN - England - Fergie plans summer spending spree

Quote:
Fergie plans summer spending spree

Sir Alex Ferguson reckons Manchester United already have enough quality to dominate in England - but that will not stop him splashing the cash.

Ferguson's side host Arsenal on Sunday looking to extend their advantage over the Gunners to nine points and move six points clear of Chelsea, who host Wigan on Monday night.

The Red Devils' impressive season has been put down, by some, to their strength and depth among the squad.

The Scot brought in Owen Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson and Carlos Tevez last summer, with the quartet all playing a key part in United's charge to retain their Premier League crown.

And Ferguson has confirmed that he will be out to reinforce his side further when the transfer window reopens.

"I don't need to spend, but I will," he said. "I think there is an area where we are short and we can stock up on that a bit.

"It is not easy getting the best players here. But we have to because when you have a lot of quality in your squad you have to be absolutely correct on who you bring in.

"A player has a chance to come to a club like United and he would say 'that's my challenge to be in the team.'

"That's what good payers do. I don't think I will bring in as many as last season and if we buy players it will probably be young ones.

"Having a strong squad has helped Chelsea and us this season. Last season, we just didn't have enough.

"This year Tevez, Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson have been really fantastic for us.

"Those four players have made a big contribution to our season."

I don't think there's any doubt we could use a top defender or two and maybe another striker if Manucho isn't going to be at the squad still next year. What do you think SAF will try to spend on? He could have a MAJOR bankroll if we win the Double this year as we hopefully should.

Maybe an additional RB , but i merely see this as a rubbing it in tactic of fergie ) after a great win and almost the title is done , he is sending out a warning that he is gonna splash the clash ..

Fergie at his best - :bows down:

SPOILERS

there's no doubt in my mind that the right back position is an area of concern. I'm not entirely comfortbale with silvestre, and Wesley has proved to be shite all too often. I've ripped on him since Fabregas scored against us in October and I can't ignore his continuous missed marking. He did it again today, when Rio luckily intercepted a ball into the box. You could see Rio turn around yelling at him, wondering why he Rio had to cover two guys in the box and where the fuck Wes was for the guy at the far post.

The striking department will become a problem, if not next year the year after. It's an area we need to focus on. We do have to start saving to pay off the leech that is Tevez's agent, but outside of that we might need to look for a young striker.

Defense is the obvious spot of need... we don't have much spped in Rio or Vidic. I want to keep them both, but add speed to the sides (maybe Pique is a long term answer), but Arsenal give us problems through pace, and pace at the ack will make us an unstoppable force in England and Europe.

Tch tch , one word - EVANS . Yes he needs maybe another year , but going out to spend big for defenders right now , is like not having faith in our system . I was extremely disappointed when rossi boy was sold and very much optimistic and hopeful that fergie may buy him back after this season end . But i dont see any big need to strengthen our central defenders . There is rio and vidic and they have two brilliant covers in pique and evans .

I wouldn't mind another left back , maybe a young gun , some one like armande traore for arsenal , when given a chance must play well but mostly should sit out on the bench and not sulk .

I agree with prongs.

We perhaps need a full back but we do have simpson and the other evans too. It depends really whether fergie sees them as being potentially world class.

I dont think neville will have too many seasons ahead of him but in the RB position we will have Neville, Brown, Simpson and perhaps oshea for cover. For left back we have Evra, tweety and perhaps simpson and oshea for cover. One class full back, perhaps one that can play on both sides might be enough imo.

I would say we definitely need another striker and he doesnt have to be young. An experienced one might actually prove the more successful short term but if fergie wants to have a strike force he wont really need to update much, a young striker might be the better option long term. Perhaps we get both a young striker and a more experienced center forward .

tbh, i doubt very much it would be a midfield player, were a bit crowded in midfield.

in the summer we shoud bring two players not more

a RB and i would choose from Valencia's Miguel, Bayern's Lahm or Schalke's Rafinha.

and a ST, a 16 yard box ST from Ajax's Huntelaar, Lyon's Benzema, Porto's Lisandro López (i really like the man, very good in front of the goal) or Bayern's Klose or Toni.

those are the players that if a was the manager i'll look up too.

Possibly a right back and a tall strong striker.

Neville, maybe a season left at most and we could do with some cover although we have Simpson and he looks good.

Up front, Tevez and Rooney are too similar although work well. Saha whilst good just isn't fit or consistent enough and for me Berbatov would be ideal but would cost too much

Saha is done. Let's put this one to bed. He is a brilliant player, but after the amount of injuries, I can't rely on him any longer. I've argued in his favor for years and at this point I've caved. Striker is an absolute requirement.

Evans needs to come back and we have Silvestre back so leftback can be covered comfortbaly.

I disagree with losangeles on Pique. He has yet to prove he is capable of playing for United and looked out of sorts on Sunday. He has speed problems that's for sure. I'd like to see Evans more, but I think we'll have to get ourselves a right-back because next season feels like Gary's last.

well for me SAF will bring a RB and maybe a CB also... it might be a player which has both qualities... thats would be fine for united...

Concerning saha, think SAF will not support him much, well its only his destiny, each time he is injured.. u cant give credits to players which is not here when u could need them and hopfully that manucho got his working permit...

maybe SAF could bring some news teens in the team.. to prepare them for later on!!

Yep mark, lisandro lopez, i like him too.. but dont think SAF gona go and fetch him...

Think SAF will surprise us with someone that we dont expect at all...
