Pique's getting itchy feet

Quote:
Gerard Pique admits his lack of regular first-team football at Manchester United could cause him to assess where his future lies.

Pique joined United from Barca in 2004 and the Spanish media has recently suggested that the Spaniard’s fragmented spell at Old Trafford could prompt the Catalan giants to move to bring the 21-year-old back to Spain.
Related Stories

The player’s agent this week exclusively told setantasports.com that he knew nothing of such transfer tittle tattle, but Pique is starting to get itchy feet.

“I don’t know how long I can wait before I play every week,” he said. “This year has been difficult as I want to play more. I was a bit upset but it seems that something has now changed.

“I don’t know about Barcelona’s interest. The Spanish Press know more about those stories than me.

“My contract with United ends in 2009, so I have plenty of time to think.”

I think this guy always thinks the grass is greener on the other side. Barca havent been great defensively but i still dont think he will get more playing time at barca than he would here at man united. Ideally he would play more but we were knocked out of the carling cup early and the title race has been too close to call until recently.

He is 21, which is still very young for a center back and im sure he will get his chances in the first team more often in the future if he continues to develop.

In the absence of Vidic and Neville and all the other knocks our defenders have had this year, Pique has stepped up and played solid football. No surprise that at United that it is difficult to play everyday. Pretty much only Rooney and Ronaldo are locks to play. Hopefully he sticks around. He's shown enough potential to show that he can be a quality defender. It is always nice to have some depth.

I believe he will get more playing time in the next season, if he plays well the next few games and also in the pre-season friendlies . He's got potential, he just need to exploit it and he will be OK.

Every young player wants to play more and more, every week, but later they realize that it's more important to work on your abilities and then show them on the pitch.

dc, I think tihs has a bit more to do with "the grass is greener on the other side."

Pique's history is as follows. Family members part of Barcelona's board [grandfather I know for sure]. He was literally born, bred and raised in Barcelona's youth system. And then the age of 15/16 comes along. You know, the age where English teams love to pluck fresh talent from Spanish youth systems.

Pique wanted to know from Barcelona what his future held and he wasn't given or shown anything positive. United wanted to sign him, spoke sweet nothings in his ear and there you have it. Gerard Pique in United's system.

This was at the time that Pique's grandfather was part of Barcelona's board!!!

The kid wants to play. He is good enough to play. He proved it countless times last season with Zaragoza.

His problem is Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. They unfortunately play a massive amount of matches. In my opinion this needs to change. Pique should have given more opportunities this season. It should take an injury to either Ferdinand or Vidic to accomplish this.

Yes, he messed up at Bolton, but name one player on United that hasn't had a gaffe this season? The lad is young, he is still learning the English game and from what we've see during his matches for United, he is a promising talent.

Furthermore, with Brown's contract still not resigned and a depth chart of O'Shea, Silvestre and Neville in the cb position. The importance of Pique staying and getting matches is vital.

Evans needs to be added to the "stay' list as well. Both of this lads easily have the potential to be United's backline in the future.

spoilers

While allof you are smelling roses, I'll remind you that he is too slow to play against the best side. His speed was a glaring detriment on sunday and I'd think that there are better options out there. I don't know what people see in him. He might have a calming personality to the defense, but I don't see him speak up often enough and I'm never particularly comfortable with his performances.

Maybe all he needs is time on the pitch, but I think the jury is still out whether he can cut it here.

i hope he understand that defender is not like mid fielder, you can change midfielder anytime and not defender, defender need a lot of chemistry, they are just like couplethat is why some time you can see defender will be a bit shaky is there is some one new on the line especially central defender.what he should do now is start to prove himself worth 1st team more from now.he got a lot of potential, but if he really want to go is up to him.

He is still young. It's impossible for him to get playing time because of Rio and Vidic. I do know he has potential from the times that I have seen him play. He just needs to wait it out. You might never know next season he might get more playing time on the field. A lot can happen in a year.

I like Pique alot, technically he is on his way to being as sound as Rio and vidic...defensivley he can be better but that takes experience and time, if he has the patience to hold on, he can be very good for us indeed...he is quality, tall although he needs to deal with headers better, I can see him puching for the centre back spot in time to come....
