Default What's the Best Place for United's Youth? - 05-01-2008, 05:53 PM

We were having a massive argument earlier in the vBJirc Chat section about Frazier Campbell vs. Welbeck. The argument eventually degenerated to comparing leagues.

Which is the better place for our youth? Is the Championship a better place for young players or is there more quality in the reserves?

I really did think this was obvious, but clearly not

Any lower league tbh. Championship, League 1 or 2 are better than the reserve league.

The problem with the reserve league is that you average 1 or 2 games a month if that.

In lower leagues you play an awful lot more and against more quality.

First off, the debate was not about what place is best for United's youth.

The answer to that is exactly was dc just stated for the reasons mentioned.

If the reserve system had matches week in and week out, I would think that players on the first team that didn't get in match fitness during the week, would play in the reserves. Basically a b team. And if you had youngsters in that mix, then yes, I would rate the reserves over Championship football.

Wenger and Benitez wanted a system like this in place and have the b team fighting in the Championship League like how b teams in Spain do with the division below La Liga. Obvioiusly the talent would be there to fight with a Championship side.

Sadly, reserve football's current state is a joke and really needs to be changed.

As for near brawl in vbjirc chat today, I'll start up the thread.
