First off, the debate was not about what place is best for United's youth.
The answer to that is exactly was dc just stated for the reasons mentioned.
If the reserve system had matches week in and week out, I would think that players on the first team that didn't get in match fitness during the week, would play in the reserves. Basically a b team. And if you had youngsters in that mix, then yes, I would rate the reserves over Championship football.
Wenger and Benitez wanted a system like this in place and have the b team fighting in the Championship League like how b teams in Spain do with the division below La Liga. Obvioiusly the talent would be there to fight with a Championship side.
Sadly, reserve football's current state is a joke and really needs to be changed.
