Default Campbell v Welbeck - Who Should Be With The First Team Next Season? - 05-01-2008, 02:12 PM

This debate got very heated in the vbjirc chat [if you have java installed on your computer, click the button right next to your private message section].

Frazier Campbell

VS

Danny Welbeck

Many questions were brought up and I'll do my best to list them so you can get a better understanding for the overall question posed.

With Saha out for the rest of the season, Welbeck is slotted in as United's 3rd choice striker.

Question 1: Do you think Welbeck is good enough to be United's 3rd choice striker? Why.

Frazier Campbell has been tearing it up with Hull in the Fizzy Pop Division during his loan stint, having netted 14 goals.

Question 2:

a. Is Frazier Campbell good enough to become United's 3rd choice striker?
b. Who do you think is rated higher with United's backroom staff. Welbeck or Campbell?

With United having signed Manucho for next season, provided his permit issues are behind him and the chance that Saha returns and both join the first team for next season. Do United...

Question 3:

a. Go out and get another striker? Who?
b. Keep either Campbell or Welbeck in the first team squad and dont' get another striker?
c. Loan both or one out? [indicate who]

With the top 4 and now those trying there hardest to get into this prestiage bracket in the epl buying up quality players,

Question 4: Can United afford to nuture either Campbell or Welbeck with the first team and not look to buy a striker?

And obviously the final question and the whole basis for this thread..

Quetion 5: Who is the better player for United's first team. Frazier Campbell or Danny Welbeck?

If EITHER of them was good enough, or at least judged to be so by the coaching staff, don't you think we would surely have seen more of them by now this season? I certainly happen to think so, but maybe it's just me.

I'm holding out hope for the Manucho permit to work out, and of course, we're going to be linked with everyone under the sun (or in The Sun, as the case might be). Hell, we got linked with Dean Ashton today, for crying out loud. It'll be some established superstar seeking a move, or some wonderkid from South America or Africa. Either way, we need a 4th striker (or 3rd, if Manucho's permit isn't given), and I have a feeling we'll be making a move in the summer.

The two of them need more experience before they are ready for the big time.United definitely need to buy established strikers for the next season.Perhaps they can use Euro2008 as a chance to spot up and coming players.

I agree. If you look at some other players at big clubs in that sort of age category such as bojan and dos-santos, im sure if they were at united they would have featured quite a little bit considering out striker shortage. If these 2 were as good maybe they would have played more?

I read that Campbell is doing pretty good at hull and scored 14 the last time i checked but whether or not he will cut it in the EPL is another matter.

We will see what happens but i dont think either of them will feature much next season except maybe against bottom of the league opposition and perhaps the carling cup. Cambell will probably feature more than welbeck imo. He would have learnt quite a bit from his loan spell this season.

Sir Alex has recalled frazier Campbell back from hull after scoring 15 goals in 37 apps. he has already broken into the england under 21's side and id a influential player. after watching him form the first half of the reserves season, i believe that he has imense talent and could turn out to be a world class united and england striker. However i do think that he may be more suited to a team like wigan or sunderland. maybe fergie ( if hull didnt get promoted) then he shud see how he fairs in the best league in the world then we can determine wether he is good enough .
