Default Ronaldo targets 50 goals *Spoilers* - 05-12-2008, 02:23 PM

Quote:
Manchester United's player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed to try to score 50 goals next season after his amazing tally this year.

Ronaldo completed a clean awards sweep at United's end-of-season awards for the second successive season.

The Portugal winger, whose 41 goals in all competitions helped United retain their Premier League title, retained both the fans' and players' player of the year awards.

Ronaldo also won the goal of the season award for his free-kick at home to Portsmouth in January.

Asked whether he will try to go for the 50-goal mark next season, Ronaldo laughed and said: "Fifty? I don't know. I'll try my best.

"I don't look for goals, I look to play well and if the goals are coming, it's good."

Asked on MUTV about the title celebrations after the win at Wigan, Ronaldo said: "Sometimes you don't have the words to say what it feels like to be a champion. It's amazing.

"I would have preferred it if it was at Old Trafford because the atmosphere would have been brilliant but we won at the JJB and it's very good to be champions."

Ronaldo admitted he had not expected the title race to go right to the wire.

"To be honest, no," he said. "The feeling is better though, it is a tough Premier League this season but when the referee finished the game (against Wigan) and you can say 'we are champions now' the feeling is great, because we worked for nine months to win this title.

"I feel very proud, very happy, everything."

As for his development as a player, Ronaldo continued: "I think I've not just improved this season; I try to improve every year. I'm better now than five years ago.

"I think at the right club, playing with the right players, you learn all the time. This season has been good for me because I've scored many goals, the team have played fantastically to win the Premier League and we're in the final of the Champions League."

As focus switches to that showdown with Chelsea in Moscow next week, Ronaldo said: "It's going to be fantastic if we win the Champions League. The feeling is going to be amazing if we win.

"In the final you never know, it is 50-50. I'm very happy and proud to play in the final, this is my first time. I feel very excited, the lads have belief and it is a great opportunity for all of the players. The lads want to win and of course I want to win as well.

"We have a great opportunity. Why not? I'm sure in this game that if you have the opportunity to win, you win."

50 goal are quite a lot but not impossible. This season Ronaldo has scored 50 if we count the goals for NT.

What do you think? Will he get 50 next season?

i remember reading this article. http://unitedzone.info/blog/2008/03/...naldo/#more-59

i really think he can do it if he keeps fit.

41 goals including 31 league goals is exceptional considering he is a winger but i wouldnt put it past him if man united have another good run out in the champions league next year and if we manage to do better in the FA cup.

He scores so many but he gets himself in so many good positions and misses a fair few chances too.

Im not sure if he will get 50 but i wouldnt be surprised if he did, the guy is immense. I voted 40-50 because i think its the most likely. (if we dont count NT)

I don't think he'll score 50. In fact I don't think he'll score as many as this season. It'll be tough for him to hit the heights of this season, he's been simply stellar. I don't think he'll have a bad season at all, just won't score as many. Defenders will get better, coaches will plan more for him. It will probably spark improvement from the rest of our squad since all the attention will be on him.

Course, I hope I'm proven wrong.

I can see him scoring above 20 goals in all competitions again.

He's the penalty taker, which is good for 5-8 goals a season.

With United's attacking style, I'm guessing in the FA Cup and EPL, he'll get at least 15.

Champions League is a crap shoot. This year, scoring/playing wise Ronaldo stepped up. But, my guess would be 3-6 goals.

So anywhere from 23-31 goals for me.

NOTE: These numbers are an absolute guess. I would like Ronaldo to score 50 goals if thats his target. I would hope he continues to include the team in his play. More importantly there should be a balance point in who the focal point of the team is.

seem quite presumptuous but not impossible.

anyway my rate for him in the next season is between 25 - 35 something like that, but a major fact in this is to keep his fitness, a little bit difficult taking in fact that the EC is approaching, and will be a year with little time for vacantions and relaxing moments.

I think 50 is too much for any player, but good luck to him. I'll be glad if he can score 40+ again, may be break Dennis Law's record, but I wouldn't mind even if he scores 30 in all competition and creates 10-15 assists as long as goals are coming and we are winning.

Try 25 assists ronnie , you could be the best ever if you aim to be that , not that you are selfish , but you have every thing you need to be a finisher , you can give 30 goals a season every time , but have some wisdom and try to create opportunity for the team and make em proud .

for me it will be between 25-35, remember that he is a winger... but next season the premiership will be even more hard, defenders will surely be more aware about him, his way of playing, goalkeepers also will see to it to learn his style...

But still, CR7 with its motivation of scoring and working hard he will reach about 30 goals in all competitions...

50 goals in a season is not impossible but it seems really much for a player in the ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE to score that much of goals, because in europe he will not score many, and most of them will be surely in the league games...

That will be really hard, but if ever that happen... i dont know what to say :S!!!!

He will surely try his best to score, but think it might be better that he dont think about scoring that much and think also and contributing to a team work...

I see wayne (rooney) doing well next season. Ronaldo will also score. BUt it all depends upon who we sign this summer. I hear Fergie has been given cash to splash. Its a good sign that he is confident. what a player ! Has anyone done it before ? 50 goals ?
