The Official United Zone "other than
Ronaldo" Player of the Year
2007/2008

Well, i wanted to start a poll on who should have won player of the year but thought it was a bit pointless because Ronaldo is everybody's winner.

Instead we have an alternative award with an extremely catchy name to recognise the rest of the team's contribution and reward the best performers.

United Zone members will vote on who we think is the Player of the year other than Ronaldo 2007/2008.

The winner of the prize will receive this very prestigious and highly sought after mug.

so can we please have your votes in on who should recieve this marvelous award and why?

please dont forget the "why" bit.

Feel Free to post vids on what you think were the highlights of your player's season or the disappointments.

Evra

He's been immense this season. I would say the most constant player in our squad. I don't remember a single disappointing game from Patrice.

He's a humble, hard working lad which deserves a lot of credit. He's been very good defensively, guarding very well his flank and also very useful upfront.

He's got the defender's skills but he also has the attacker's skills too, which make him a very dangerous player. When he's defending he wins most of his one-on-one's, when his attacking he does some amazing tricks and dribblings.

I think he will become one of the fans' favorite players, if he isn't yet. Hope he will keep up his marvelous performances next season.

I can really say Thank God Heinze got that injury.

I'm going to hand it to Rio. Defenders generally don't get a whole lot of accolades and Rio has been incredible. This is probably his best season ever. Excellent defending, ability to recover situations well, a commanding presence on the pitch and formed great partneships with both Vidic and Brown. He has proven many of his critics wrong and become the best CB in England, and probably one of the best in the world.

Honourable mentions: Tevez, Vidic and Evra, who have both been tremendous this season. Tevez has been an industrious player, scored some very important goals and his work rate is excellent. With 19 goals, he's our second top scorer. Vidic has defended braved and formed a barrier of steel with Rio. Evra has not only great defending attributes, but he can also go forward and attack, almost as a second left-winger.

Yeah it's hard to not want to put Evra up there. He's been so good. His most under-rated quality actually is his leadership. He was captain at Monaco if you remember. Class player.

I disagree. I think he is a very good player and has been absolutely tremendous but i havent witnessed many occasions where he has shown great leadership. You dont have to be a captain to be a leader and not all captains are good leaders. Ie rio has always been a leader type figure even when he wasnt captain and the likes of gallas, torres and reo-cocker used to be captains. However none of them are good leaders. Ive never seen

For me, having Rio in our defence has been just as important as having ronaldo attacking. The fellah saved us on so many occasions and kept his concentration throughout the season.

He is great in the air, reads the game well and keeps his nerve (except when he kicked that steward). His tackling is superb too.

He puts on a performance of the the same standard no matter who partners him. Brown, vidic, oshea, it doesnt matter.

Great leader too, leads by example and motivates the team.

honourable mentions to evra, carrick, rooney and tevez. They all performed exceptionally well. I am impressed by carrick's performances this season. His response to man united signing hargreaves was very professional and he fought his way back into the team after having a few shockers. There were times where i really thought he didnt know what he was doing, he had no confidence in himself whatsoever. Well done for him for recovering and showing people what he can do.

Tevez is a machine. He just never stops running after the ball. Even when there is no point in it any more, he just chases it until he gets it. Scored some very important goals this season too.

Rooney has also been great. He hasnt scored as many as he would have hoped for but his contributions to the team are outstanding.

Has to be Rio Ferdinand.

His importance to the backline has been massive. Not to mention his contributions in starting attacks.

This season, he has really stepped up his game. He has shutdown some of the biggest players and made them look invisible. Torres, Eto'o to name a few.

His leadership and trust with teammates is evident on and off the pitch.

Honourable mention to Carrick, Scholes and Tevez.

Rio Ferdinand:

his form this year has been nothing short of sensational. this has definitely been his best year at united and his performances even without vidic (barcelona home and away) have been excellent

special mention to evra whos attacking runs give us an extra dimension up front but it has to be rio for me

Wayne Rooney - Sheer heart , desire , precision , hard work and tenacity .

He has been there when we weren't pulling it off , and times when he showed a moment of spark or responsibility , the entire team came back alive .

He may not be scoring plenty of goals . But he has seen all the goals and has atleast contributed more than half of em we scored all season *( yes he has only 16 or so assists , yet the contribution need not be a direct one ) .

To me , if rooney was missing , we could have been completely misfiring . We couldn't have had such a run from february . To take the 5 points deficit to a 8 points lead .

While ronaldo was terrorising the record books and posing in the camera , it was rooney's tiring hard work behind all these limelight which was very unselfish and beautiful to watch , like royston maurice keane .

The man has had an impact in all the games we have played and when he doesn't perform / not play , we don't play well .

Remember , he was asked to give up on his free role and was asked to play upfront with tevez playing Rooney the number 8 used to play . Yet rooney was magnificent whenever he was asked to play upfront , yeah maybe he didn't score much . But the games against arsenal FA Cup . HE took gallas and toure in his pockets and he owned carragher in the pool game .

He has played as a left winger , played as a right winger , and has been nothing short of Decent .

Besides , rooney has matured a lot this season . If Rio wasn't showing that maturiy himself , i wouldn't have been surprised if rooney was going to wear the arm band !

If i have to pick two more .

I would pick evra and tevez in that order . Evra peach of a season ! Best left back by a country mile , While tevez took us to a new level in playing like a maniac when it mattered and made the difference , some of the beautiful games we had like one against villa or the one against castle , or the one against everton . It was all tevez who made the difference . Oh i don't even have to start on the crucial big time goals he helped . With tevez we get the attacking edge . Cos he not only does the hard work , but he also is technically brilliant .

But yeah . Rooney is my player of the season minus ronaldo .

Edwin! Without him, we would have lost the title ten times over.

followed closely by Rio
