Why Hasn't Evra's Contract Been Sorted? -

With United sorting out long term deals for Carrick, Brown and Ferdinand, one contract situation has gotten very little press lately.
PATRICE EVRA'S!!!
His contract only has a year to run on it and apparently no discussions have occurred between his agent and United.
After Ronaldo, he has to be in the top 3 for United player of the year. His workrate has been amazing!!!
Now the rumours floating around are Evra's agent is trying to get pay parity with the likes of Rooney and Ferdinand. Which would be 90k+.
United want to pay him on par with Wes Brown's new deal which is around 55k.
So taking into account that these figures or contract situation aren't confirmed, what's your take on it?
Why hasn't Evra's contract been handled yet?

Patrice Evra is yet to agree a new contract with ManYoo despite having one year left on his current deal.
The Frenchman's form over the last two seasons has been exceptional and he has established himself as the best left-back in the Premier League.
But despite the club indicating in January that they wanted to open talks, Evra is still sweating on a new deal.
The former Monaco player is clearly getting a little worried after the club agreed contracts with seven senior players last month including Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and Michael Carrick.
"My agent is speaking to the club. There has been one meeting and nothing since.
"I have one year left. The ball is in United's court," said Evra.
"My job was to concentrate on winning the title and I have done it.
"Now my job is to concentrate on winning the Champions League. Let's see what happens after that.
"It was very important for me to win the league, not because of my new contract but to prove that last season was not an accident."
Patrice Evra insists that he is happy at Manchester United and hopes to be offered a new deal in the near future.
The French international has only one-year left to run on his current contract at Old Trafford, but remains confident that the situation will be resolved shortly.
He has become a firm fixture in the Red Devils' first-team since his 2006 move from Monaco, and it would come as a surprise if Sir Alex Ferguson were to allow the attacking full-back to leave.
Evra accepts that anything is possible in football and his future may lie elsewhere, but for now he remains focused on helping United to European glory over Chelsea next Wednesday.
Meeting
"When I came here a lot of people told me football in England is just 'kick the ball away', but now I just laugh because the football is the best in the world," he said.
"I have one year left on my contract but I am just concentrating on the final. I have an agent and Manchester United know my situation. A meeting is coming, but for now I'm concentrating on winning the Champions League.
"After that let's see what happens. It would be hard to leave this club, but in football you never know."
Evra heads to Moscow for next week's UEFA Champions League final desperate to erase the painful memories of falling at the final hurdle with Monaco in 2004.
Overdue
He also believes that the United squad owe their manager another opportunity to get his hands on the trophy, as one success in 22 years does not do justice to a man who has transformed the Old Trafford club.
"Since I lost the final it's been in my mind every day," said Evra.
"That's why, when I signed for Man United, I said in my first interview I just want to play in the Champions League and win to cancel this bad memory with Monaco.
"It's my second final but I can't just play this game. I need to win this game because it's very important for Manchester United because it's a long time since 1999.
Respect
"And I want to win for Alex Ferguson. It's just his second final in the Champions League and I think a manager like that deserves to win it more than once.
"This is why I hope that everyone gets the present for him, out of respect for what he has done for Manchester United.
"I think it's very important for everybody but of course for the manager it's important.
"In 20 years at Manchester United he has won ten titles, but I think it's very important for him."
i think MU will start his contract talks after the UCL final, anyway no rush cuz i think SAF deffenitly wants that Evra to stay, he is pure world class.

Manchester United always score!
the reason it hasnt been sorted yet is simple. Evra values himself more than man united are prepared to offer him so quite clearly some compromises will have to be made. These compromises will most definitely distract evra, unsettle him and distract his team mates from the main target which is to play football and be successful.
With the Champions league final coming up united wont re-continue talks and risk causing friction with evra. No need for it.
Its definately best to wait till the final, then talk about it after then.
Yes rio signed his contract along with a few others but the talks going on there were different. What evra wants is to be paid as much as united's biggest stars so that will be a lot more than 55k. Its probably best to keep the haggling till later.
You may ask why was brown's deal renewed then if they are trying to avoid haggling? The answer is that brown's contract was about to end and the priority to renew it is higher.
Evra can wait till may 22nd.

I am surprised this hasn't been sorted out already. Evra has been tremendous this year. I'm sure he deserves a better contract than he's on now. Hopefully this will be done shortly after the CL final.
Evra set for contract talks -

You know, reading about what I initially wrote, I do have to say I was being impatient.
United has a list of players to negotiate contract renewals and it so happened that Evra's was down on the list.
That doesn't mean he's not valued or less important. Its a matter of keeping the team stable. [ex. Ronaldo's contract]
I'm glad that talks have opened and I'm certainly hoping that Evra's contract gets renewed.
Quality player and essential to United's continued success.

Patrice Evra has revealed that he will have another meeting over a new Manchester United deal next week.
The Frenchman has just one year left to run on his current contract and he admits there is a lot of interest in him after an impressive season.
He has been waiting for his future to be sorted out for some time and is now set to discuss an extension with club officials.
"The negotiations have lasted a little. We will have a new meeting on May 29," Evra said in L'Equipe.
"Now it is up to the club, who know what we have already agreed. We will see.
"A lot of clubs are attracted to me. It is quite logical as I did a lot on the pitch.
"Anyway, I hope we will find a solution as soon as possible."
France
Evra was a key figure for United this season as they won the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, and he is now hoping for more success with France at Euro 2008.
The left-back has been included in Raymond Domenech's initial squad and is looking to feature heavily in Austria and Switzerland.
He said: "Euro can be a very important step in my career. It will be my first tournament with the French team.
"I am confident, and at the group's disposal. I hope I can finish the season as European champion with Les Bleus."
Evra further proved his worth in the CL final with that excellent incursion to set up a potential goal for Giggs, and he kept Joe Cole quiet. We must get him a long-term contract.
