Alex Ferguson hails 'boy wonder' Anderson

Scholes is expected to be out until the new year with the injury, sustained in training ahead of United's Champions League tie at Dynamo Kiev six weeks ago. But Anderson, a £19 million summer signing from Porto, has given United a new dimension, and Ferguson says the youngster is merely justifying the faith United had in signing him.

Ferguson said: "Anderson has been absolutely superb. The boy has definitely got something special. There was an urgency to get him once we'd scouted him, even though he'd broken his leg and had been out for four or five months.

"The reports we were getting were saying that he was the best young player in the world. At the time, I was saying, 'For God's sake, let's calm down a bit here.' I knew he had real potential, but I didn't want to put labels on him like that. But we've been delighted with him and he has proven himself to be a true central midfield player.

"He can tackle, he's lightning quick, he's brave and he can pass the ball. What he's got to prove is his goalscoring ability because that's something that Scholesy has always given us."

Cesc Fabregas has been tipped as a possible Footballer of the Year after inspiring Arsenal to the top of the Premier League, but Ferguson thought Anderson outplayed him in the 2-2 draw at the Emirates last month. "Fabregas is going through a golden period at Arsenal," Ferguson said, "but I thought Anderson dominated that position."

I have to say im a bit surprised by how well he adapted. His pre-season games went in any way spectacular and i feared we bought kleberson v2 but since then i think he got his touch back and has been immense.

i think to say he is the best young player in the world or to compare him to fabregas is a bit much. However, he has great potential and seems to have everything. He can even tackle and track back all the time. This is probably just meant as a confidence boost for Anderson.

It's simply HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

come on let's leave the book open on this kid. Seriously, he can barely find Piccadilly Gardens, let alone the net. While I'll recognize, he's played well at times, and he's a very bright star at 19, I am just not going to quief at the thought of him playing.

This kid is the real deal, without having to mention his attacking abilities, I cannot remember another attacking Brazlian player that tracks and tackles like this kid (He has shades of edgar davids). It's obvious from seeing footgae of him, he has plenty of tricks and dribbling and shots up his sleeve, but he is just geting use to the manchester system before he starts to show his individuality. We just signed a 19 year old brazilian international, who can pass, track back, takcle and dribble....not worth the money, a bargin in my opinon.....

Default Hype?? - 12-06-2007, 10:39 PM

Hype???

I think we all known Sir Alex ferguson long enough to know that he wouldn't be putting unneccessery pressure on youngsters, espicially not ones that have come here from another country, so when he says special we better believe it coz obviously Anderson in doing and showing him things in training we have yet to see....so for those that think he is hype.....believe the hype baby....believe!

nah, i'll pas on believing the hype

it's just way too early. He's barely put on the kit and he's talking about how Anderson dominated Cesc Fabregas. I mean come on! He was great in that game, but calling him the best young player out there is just absurd. That's the media side of SAF that I'd rather just ignore.

Manchester united are one of the best teams in the world and if you are 19 years old starting and playing great against Arsenal, another one of the best teams in europe...then obviously yes I think you can definitley say that he is one of the best young players in the world/europe. He has already proved it and keeps doing so....just keep watching and supporting, because there is much to come!

No one is saying he is perfect just yet, but for his age, is is great!

it'd be nice to see him have a decent shot outside the box though...the few he's had seem to have gone way off target, but he always seems slightly off balance when shooting....

17m is never a bargain. Ronaldo cost us 12m? That's a bargain. But the kid has class and some serious brass knackers to go after blokes the way he does sometimes...

Anderson is a great asset to the club.Sensational midfielder. Fantastic as a help for our defense. Dangerous while attacks. As you can see I have a lot of respect for him.
Well done Anderson. The price?! One of the guys here on forum nicely wrote in another article : "We can afford it" so I'll just quote him http://unitedzone.info/forum/images/.../s_man_utd.gif
