Default Van Der Sar to Retire From Holland Duties - 10-29-2007, 10:33 AM

Looks like Edwin to follow Scholes and Giggs in retiring from international footy. The question is, will he be staying on at United after his contract is up this summer?

Van Der Sar to quit Oranje after Euro 2008

Manchester United and Holland goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has revealed his intention to quit international football after Euro 2008.

Van der Sar, who turned 37 on Monday, made his Oranje debut in June 1995 against Belarus and has since racked up 121 caps for his country.

The former Juventus and Ajax keeper said: 'I will stop with with the Oranje after Euro 2008. The time has come.'

Holland still require one win from their remaining Euro 2008 qualifiers against minnows Luxembourg and Belarus to qualify for next summer's finals in Austria and Switzerland.

Van der Sar is out of contract at United at the end of the season.

I think its no suprise and its pretty sensible. He is in his final years but he seems to still be one of the best around. He did say he was planning to r tire from holland after euro 2008 quite a while ago too

He is out of contract this summer but apparently he might stay at a coach if not a players. Click. I also think that he will stay on for another year as a player - unless foster and the PIG prove themselves worthy an capable replacements.

Well i have a feeling that he took this decision so he could concentrate on united more which means most probably he is going to sign a new contract with them, another one year extension. we have a good backup in Tomaz Kuz and Ben Foster but still non have experience on the highest level.
