Vidic confesses: The further we go in Europe, the harder it is for me as I'm scared of flying

Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic has confessed to a growing fear of flying.

The Old Trafford Serbian-born defender tells Inside United – the official magazine of Manchester United – "I'm starting to get more worried each time I fly.

"My wife isn't very good on planes and the more travelling I do with her the more she makes me nervous. "And obviously I travel a lot with Manchester United, so sometimes I think the more I get on the plane, the more chance there is of something going wrong. "I think Sir Bobby Charlton is amazing. He was involved in a terrible air crash yet he still flies. He is a very, very courageous man. I cannot imagine doing that, definitely not."

Vidic says training with players like Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Saha has helped him become a better player. "Training with those players would make anyone better. And it's not just those four. There are so many great players here, people who can beat you one on one,” he said. "That's fantastic from my point of view because it helps gauge where I am. There's also competition for places, and I can do with tough challenges in training. "It all helps me improve and keep my place in the team."

Vidic singled out Arsenal's Robin van Persie, Chelsea's Didier Drogba, Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones, Yakubu at Everton and Wigan's Emile Heskey as the strongest forwards he has faced. "Everyone has different skills and no two strikers play the same way. I haven't played against Fernando Torres yet but he looks like a very good player," Vidic added.

In all seriousness though, I understand his logic. The more times you step on a plane, the greater the chance that something goes wrong.

However, Mr. Vidic should know that airplanes are the safest mode of transportation.

Giggs is afraid of air travel as well so maybe they shouldn't sit next to each other on the plane.

That's actually not true at all Funky. The odds 'reset' every time you step on a plane. The incidents are independent, hence no one flight influences the safety of another.

Funny that Vidic is afraid of something he can't control. Everything else he has under his control. His body has developed cures for AIDS, cancer and diabetes already.

I don't like flying much either....maybe i'm as good a defender as he is?

Im a pilot I'll volunteer taking Vidic for a ride anytime to help get over his fears lol. Strange he has a fear of flying when he spends so much time in the air on the back line for us.

Everyone has to have something to fear I guess. There certainly isn't anything on the pitch that he fears!
