Default Man Utd boss Ferguson charged after ref rant

I can see SAF getting a touchline ban for his latest rant. He has been having a go at refs this season and rightfully so. United players have been getting abused with lil reprieve from the refs. Unfortunately, his rants/rows/insults towards the refs won't sit too well with the league.

Hopefully his touchline ban if given doesn't mean he'll miss the Liverpool matchup. Very important game for us.

Quote:
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged by the Football Association following his finger-jabbing attack on referee Mark Clattenburg at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.

Ferguson was sent to the stands by Clattenburg following his half-time rant during United's 1-0 defeat at Bolton, when the Scot told the official 'exactly what he thought of him'.

Clattenburg included his version of the incident in his report of the game, which was examined by Soho Square disciplinary chiefs on Monday.

It is hardly a surprise Ferguson has been called to answer the charge of 'using abusive and insulting words towards an official'.

He has until December 11 to respond and is facing a fine and the possibility of a touchline ban if the case against him is proved.

pathetic really, why dont they charge Clattenburg for being weak, undecisive and blind?

i think like footbalers and managers get disciplined for bad performances, so should refs.

clatenburg has been useless this season, i remember when gerrard told him to send a player off instead of just booking and he quite happily put his yellow card back in his pocket and got out the red. Yes, he got suspended for two weeks but why on earth did the FA assign a weak referee the task of refereeing a derby?

evra got totally battered and im not sure why. It was just an absaloute disgrace. Davies should have been sent off, he didnt play football, he was just blatantly trying to injure evra. it takes one to know one i guess.

I don't know... I'm not saying the ref had a great game, but I don't think it was nearly as bad as Sir Alex and some others are saying. I thought the ref did a good job calming down Davies and Evra. Davies had a borderline second yellow challenge and the ref gave him a good talking to and I don't believe he had another incident after. Evra also had a challenge (blatantly retaliatory) which maybe should have been a yellow and on another day could have also produced a red, but the ref gave him a nice, stern warning instead. The ref had some bad moments, yes, but if Sir Alex was sent from the pitch, he had to have said some nasty things...warranted or not, he shouldn't be doing that.

I've watched that cross a couple of times and I really don't think it was a hand ball. It hits him in the shoulder, I'm almost sure of it.

FA were probably right in their decision to ban Fergie from the touchline.

However that doesn't excuse the ref of his performance for that match, which is the whole reason why Fergie was so pissed and why this whole situation even exists.

Default Ferguson handed two-match touchline ban

Well, not too bad. 2 games, 5k fine.

He'll be out against West Ham and Birmingham.

Quote:
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been handed a two-match touchline ban and a £5,000 fine by the Football Association.

Ferguson declined to fight a misconduct charge brought by the FA over his use of 'insulting words' to referee Mark Clattenburg following the half-time whistle at United's recent Premier League encounter with Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.

Clattenburg sent Ferguson to the stands for the second period following the United manager's finger-jabbing rant and with a 14-day notice period, the Scot will not be present in the Red Devils dug-out for the trip to West Ham on December 29 or the home encounter with Birmingham on New Year's Day, 24 hours after he celebrates his 66th birthday.

An FA statement said: 'At a Regulatory Commission hearing yesterday, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was given a two-match touchline ban, starting on Friday 28 December. He was also fined £5,000.

'Ferguson admitted a charge of using abusive and/or insulting words towards referee Mark Clattenburg at half-time of United's game against Bolton on Saturday 24 November.

'As he did not request a personal hearing, the case was dealt with on the basis of written statements and video footage.'

The United manager, whose last major altercation with officialdom was at St James' Park four years ago when he was also banned for two games but fined £10,000 for a stinging attack on Jeff Winter, was deeply unhappy at Clattenburg's failure to stamp out Bolton's 'over-aggressive' tactics.

One tackle by Kevin Davies on Patrice Evra particularly incensed the Scot, who approached Clattenburg as he was about to enter the tunnel 'to tell him exactly what I thought'.

'Some people don't like the truth,' added the Scot.

'You expect a team in Bolton's position to battle, scrap and fight. But the key thing is how the referee controls it. That is where we feel a bit aggrieved.''

While I think it is deserved, I completely understand his point. The officiating during that match was absurd.
