even if waited his contract out, you can't tell me that united can't do better in the transfer market come the summer. the ad isn't that impressive. Now granted i'm a massive detractor of his (why does he remind me of shrek when he walks), but it's obvious that with neville back and simpson, and hargreaves for cover, we have at some sort of cover. Is it optimal? No, but it's not like we're naked at the position. Let's start scouting for wing backs and look to the summer as a time of rebuilding. Hopefully we don't blow all our money on Dimitar in the mean time.

@Fred: that quote by Saf was when Wesley was 21. He's now 26 and has gone through two long term injury spells. You can at least admit that he's nothing like what was projected at the time. SAF went as far as calling him better than Rio, and we all know that bullocks. As for being better than Vidic, the proof is in the pudding, and if SAF saw Wesley as the better player, he'd be in the center spot, not Vida. That said, Vida is WAYYYYYY better than Wesley. I actually think Vidic died slightly inside from that comparison; he's even more of a maniac now.

As far as my subjectiveness with Brown, it's based on years of mediocre performances, and him never performing at levels equivalent to the hype. This contract row, is the final straw for me. I of course want him to stay, but this is United - either kiss the badge, sign on the line, or fuck off.

We should be upset if he leaves as neither Pique nor Evans have the experience, control or flair Brown has, especially in his more natural position of central defender. It will cost more money to replace him (if he doesn't go on a Bosman) than what he's asking for in the new contract. In my opinion Brown is a better defender than Vidic, certainly when on the ball. And as for having bad times and making blunders, you can't name me one United player who hasn't. You lot soon forget that Brown was pivitol member of the treble winning side. If he's a "key player to Uniteds Future - SAF" then he deserves a contract on par with the other regular United defenders.
You think everyone is crazy, although you classify someone born in 1979 as young?

Ok, he is a decent player and has certain qualities when defending but he's hardly as good as you have described him, especially when comparing him to Vidic.

He may be considered a key player if he remains at the club, but he's not irreplacable as previously mentioned and if he decides to leave then I'm sure he can be easily replaced with someone of adequate ablility.

IMO this is just another piece of evidence when looking at greedy footballers, he has played for us for nearly 12 years and to leave and go to the clubs linked (who Blackburn are the only team in the top 10) seems quite rediculous to me.

with all due respect RF

just ask yourself this question. as of today, which would be harder to replace. Vidic or Wesley?

As for which him being being one of the best (if not the best) defender in england, would rather have Terryor Rio or Wes?

This is all well and good, but if Tottenham are looking to buy and I was the one negotiating the deal, i'd be the first to agree with you

"The matter rests with Wes and his agent. We'll just wait and see what happens. Our offer is still there - it's now up to Wes."

hardly a suprise that newcastle made a bid for him. Im suprised we rejected instead of cashing in straight away.

I think United will wait and make sure they have a replacement for Brown before selling.

Or, they are still hoping that he comes to his senses and signs a contract.

It'll be a real shame to lose him on a Bosman.

EDIT:

Big Sam is in love with Wesley....

Allardyce still keen on Brown

Sam Allardyce admits he could make another attempt to bring Manchester United defender Wes Brown to Newcastle United.

Earlier on Friday, Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed he had rejected an offer from Newcastle for Brown.

The England international is out of contract at the end of the season and has turned down the champions' final offer of an extension.

Magpies boss Allardyce is planning talks with chairman Chris Mort regarding another bid and believes Brown could help to solve his side's defensive frailties.

Hugely experienced

"I will have to speak to the chairman over that," said Allardyce on Sky Sports News.

"From my point of view, I would like Wes Brown very, very much. A hugely experienced defender coming in would be fantastic.

"From our point of view, we have had a problem of not keeping enough clean sheets and this effectively means we have to score at least two goals to win a football match.

"If we can resurrect that side of our defensive problems with Wes, that would be fantastic. I would have to speak to Chris on that to see whether we can move it forward or whether we can't."

But Allardyce did play down a link to Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim, who he worked with during his time as Bolton Wanderers manager.

Reports claimed Newcastle were lining up a loan bid for the Israel international, but Allardyce is not planning a move for the centre-half.

He added: "I don't think so at the moment, that's not one we've certainly pursued anyway."
