Carlos Tevez is the Premier League's top performer this season, according to Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the English top flight.

The 23-year-old struck his close-range winner two minutes before the break to hand United a valuable three points against the Reds' local rivals and fellow title contenders.

Tevez has scored nine goals this season in 21 games since joining the Reds in the summer.

Seven of them have come in the league. And of 46 shots in league matches this season, the Argentina international has hit 28 on target.

But, more than his goals, his tenacity, determination and excellent link-up play with strike partner Wayne Rooney have all proved a prominent feature of United's attacking play.

Tevez is one of three United players ranked in the top 10 of the Actim Index ratings.

Defender Rio Ferdinand has made it to eighth position with his solid and commanding displays at the heart of United's defence, while Cristiano Ronaldo is currently ranked ninth

i have to say, tevez has really impressed me this year. I never expected this at all, he is a completely different player than the tevez we saw struggling at west ham.

He is a great team player and compliments united's style.

I think he's done well so far as an encore to last season. He'd probably rank higher if not for the missed matches.

i love the sight when tevez looses possesion...he chases down the ball all through the pitch and dosent give up ultil he has the ball back...that guys has loads of energy and stamina and ofcourse talent

Tevez is great. I think he made a good decision when he chose West Ham. He adapted to English football. Then he joined United and i think he is vital for our team now. He really deserves the first place, because he is an outstanding player.

Tevez is without doubt our best striker, at the moment anyway. Glad we signed him and not someone like Torres.

Yeah, Tevez is fantastically consistent and keeps getting better. And I must say that I do as well agree that Ronaldo has had a pretty mediocre year. Mediocre for him being stellar for most but every match it seems this season we're just not getting the most from him.
