I must admit im a fan of carrick. He's got vision, two good feet and he can control the tempo of a game. He's been out for a while and now he's just coming back, fair enough he isnt performing like Anderson but he hasnt been that bad. Give him a few more games he'll regain his confidence and you'll see the best of him.
I have to agree with Mozart on this, Carrick is not competing with the holding midfielders, but with the attacking ones. I think that what has not helped him is the elbow injury he picked up, which opened the door for Anderson to have an extended run, and look at the difference it made for the youngster. Perhaps if Michael had not picked up that injury, then he would really have settled in with Hargreaves behind him, and we might not even be having this discussion.
So once again, I think that an extended run would do the world for his confidence, because he is a great player. I just don't know where that opportunity is going to come from.
Carrick has proven that he is a very talented player. The problem this season is this:
With the additions of Anderson and Hargreaves, Carrick's usefulness has been severely reduced.
I believe the general thoughts of the central midfield partnership after Scholes retired would be: Carrick - Hargreaves.
Problem is... Anderson really came from no where and has been massively impressive in form. Couple that when fit and plays, Hagreaves has been nothing short of outstanding.
So as of now, that leaves Carrick as 3rd/4th choice behind Anderson, Hargreaves and Fletcher (notice that Fletcher has featured in more games over the past couple of weeks than Carrick). When Scholes returns, Carrick will be bumped further down.
I've always liked Carrick's game. Can pass the ball all over the pitch with precision, ability to press forward and shoot the ball and has learned over his 1st season to hold in the miidfield better. The question is, where exactly is he in United's plans? If he can't get a good run of games now that Scholes is out, he might have to be sold. Too talented a player to be sitting on the bench.
Fingers crossed that we get to see the partnership of Carrick - Hargreaves a lil more. Because I think that Anderson is playing a lil too much.

^ Carrick is definitely ranked higher than Fletcher. Fletcher is just being played to finish off games, when there is no need of creativity in the midfield.
I think Carrick is a good player just like any other player in the squad (including Darren Fletcher). Players need games to remain sharp. Carrick was out for a month and that didn't help anyone's cause at all. He's a versatile player in my opinion and once he gets his form back he'll be a hit again!
I would like to see him back with Scholes in the starting XI because they complemented eachother so well. That's the problem, i dont think he has found his place alongside hargo, fletch or anderson. but with scholes back i reckon carrick will flourish again.
hm...personaly i;m not worried...why should be?....the only thing is that Michael didn't play the same nr of games he did last season, because he has more competition especialy from Hargo.
There's nothing wrong with him...this is my opinion...we'll all see in the future if i'm right or wrong
Carrick is one of the best midfielders we've got! He has struggled with his form after the injury but now he looks fine. He needs to be more audacious going forward though and scoring a few goals if possible. But he's better than Hargreaves undoubtedly! We should be discussing Hargreaves or Fletcher, i.e. if we absolutely have to discuss anyone....Carrick = Gold!
