Carrick slows down our tempo too much, he played well against Newcastle but it wasn't exactly hard to look good against them. He doesn't fit into our style of play, with Anderson and Hargreaves in midfield there is no place for Carrick. Sell him to newcastle for £18 mil in the summer!!

I think he's a good player, and his passing can be very good, but I agree that when he's up against the competition he has he's going to have trouble being an automatic starter. Guess it depends how much depth and options Sir Alex wants to have in the squad will determine how long he stays.

Fletcher's always struck me as being in the John O'Shea mould, a bit of a utility player, but he doesn't seem to have the versatility O'Shea has, or at least he's not been played in too many positions, and I can't recall ever seeing him play in goal! ;-)

After watching the machester derby it proved with carricks goal that he can score goals and i personally think we missed his passing during the game.

I honnestly don't think he is the right man for United. he is a bit too offensive for a defensive midfielder, and we already have scholes/anderson for the passing. yes he scored against city, and although he has wonderful shooting (the double against Roma speaks loudly enough), he isn't effective at all. If it were for me, I'd swap him for a real DMC, from De Rossi & Gattuso to Frings, or van Bommel, Mascherano...or even his type (Xavi, Toulalan, Xavi Alonso)...Essien is untouchable there

£18 mil would be too good to refuse!

^ have you noticed that we won every game in 2008 in which he has played from the first minute? Also the match against Spurs (3-1), from the second Carrick stepped on the pitch the team started playing better. Midfield is the key. Carrick is one of the keys to midfield full control!

i no 18 mill would be to gud to turn down but scholes is 34, would you sign someone to replace carrick if was to go. personally i would keep him because him and scholes work well together and anderson and hargraves work well. get rid of o'shea hes so rubbish

I dont think Carrick and Scholes play that well together, I think with Scholes on the pitch Carrick often makes short 10 yard passes to him and lets him create but when he isnt on the pitch Carrick tend to try his long range passing which is fantastic a lot more the Roma game, and the other day against Arsenal are both examples. Hes a great player on his day just need to have a day a bit more often.

Can't get rid of O'Shea player who can play in just about any posiotin and do a decent job is a very rare thing.

Mates, I have written an article on Michael Carrick's recent form. If you're interested here's the link: Michael Carrick - The Fifth Wheel?
